I was recently in a fatal accident and I was the driver of the vehicle that killed a guy on a motorcycle. I’m living a nightmare and I have for past 3days. I was just wondering if anyone has been in this position. I’m getting better with dealing with it because of my family and talking. I’m worried I’m going to have flash backs. I’m on a leave of absence because of the work I do, I’m afraid of having another emotional breakdown. They told me it was ptsd.

I did the dumbest thing today. I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds. I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym. What a dummy!

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...
I'm really sorry that happened. I would say that if talking about it and being open is helping you, then maybe you could see a therapist? A good trauma therapist can really help get things in perspective. I do well with simple talk therapy, so maybe it can help you too.
Again, I'm sincerely sorry you're going through this. I think you're brave to want to deal with it and can talk about it, and you aren't trying to jam it down some dark hole and forget about it. I respect your spirit.
I am not sure who they are that are telling you, you have PTSD. If it is not a qualified mental health specialist telling you this, don't listen to them. Not everyone who experiences a trauma gets PTSD. I am not a qualified professional mental health expert but I feel it is too soon to tell if it is PTSD or a normal reaction to a tragic event.
If you are concerned about PTSD or just for good mental health after such an event, I would suggest seeking out a good trauma counselor. Perhaps see a psychiatrist first to get a proper diagnosis, in Canada they are the only ones who can diagnose a mental health problem. Then find a counselor to work with. Something like this can easily become PTSD if it is not treated and given your note, you could use to talk to someone other than your family.
Don't get me wrong family support is a big part of recovery.
All the best I am so sorry this has happened.
I was taken to court and convicted of "careless and imprudent driving." That's a misdemeanor like a DUI or DWI for those like me who weren't even under the influence of a substance when they had their accident.
I already had PTSD at the time of my accident, so the accident just made symptoms already present worse. A therapist and meds got me through it all. I started attending my first support group meeting at my therapist's suggestion at that time, too.
I still keep up my psychiatric support now years later. I see him tomorrow, Monday, in fact. I really recommend something like it for you, too, just speaking from my own personal experience.
Sending lots of healing hopes for your recovery, Baglady. Your level of awareness of what is going on is a HUGE healing hope, in itself.
Hope healing happens here.
