A recurring pattern in my personal thought loops is what I call, "Dysfunctional Refrains." These are phrases that send me off into my obsessive thought loops. The words keep changing (I am a multi-lingual wordsmith, after all), but the pattern strikes me as quite consistent. When I catch myself using a dysfunctional refrain, I believe it means that I am developing a faulty logic. I try to stay aware of the phrase in my thoughts and speech and take notes on where it leads me.
The "dysfunctional refrain" on my radar lately has been, "If you think ___this___ is hard, wait until you get to ___that___."
I believe I use it when I am caught between trying to predict the future and dualistic thinking (only two possibilities available).
Just trying to find the words to describe it. . . Am making sense?

I don't really know how to label this but I having a rough week and I can't say it's one thing.... I have a lot on my plate which is nothing new and I try to cope in many positive ways and do but I still have my moments. My kids more so my daughters talk to me about everything which I know it's cause of comfort and we are close.... however I really struggle with the venting about their dad which...

(Whatever it is) it is all my fault somehow.
I am (fill in negative).
But I do get the occasional, "Oh, yeah, sure, you think this is tough, well, missy-girl, you just try THIS on for size, yeah, see, you're just such a wuss you can't even handle *this*, and THAT is gonna be worse, but oh no, let's not suck it up and cope...."
Like, y'know, only occasionally. Enough to have actually written those words. Um. Yeah. Okay. Occasionally means "every day", right? *sigh*
FOr me it stems from insecurities about fault-finding (I always find it's my fault). Not so much even predicting the future as promising myself it will suck. Like a brand-new shop-vac. Yep.
Not sure about dualism so much as the need to define by contrast. I distinguish between them. Dualism to me is black-or-white thinking, but defining by contrast can mean "apples or oranges".... black-or-white implies, for me, that I'm comparing similar (things). Whereas definition by contrast can means comparing dissimilar ones. But I'm a semantic screwball.
Now I must ask... Am making sense?
I am wondering if targeting specific phrases helps me recognize and interrupt the thought loops before they get to the full NASCAR chaos. Once my thoughts start racing, it almost takes an Act of God to interrupt them. The crash and burns are an audience thrill, but they sure are rough on the driver. I am shooting toward the preventative measures.
Not sure. . . Just Monday morning gee whizicals.
