So I have a conversion disorder, also known as functional neurological disorder, and I saw my rapist last week. Shortly after that I woke up with all my joints hurting, and have progressed to a low-grade fever, swollen wrist, swollen hip, and my vision is blurry off and on, and I am having some muscle pain now too, along with a headache, and I am a bit off balance although I have not actually fallen down. The only way I can sleep is a shit load of aspirin and I jacked my sisters Voltaren Gel for my joints. I went to the doctor, and they are checking for Lyme disease and rocky mountain spotted fever. I found like for little bumps on my tummy that could be the start of a rash. I have also had shingles multiple times, and right now I am just like fuck my life, cuz what if its all conversion, which may sound silly to some of you but trust me, my unconscious brain has been known to do some pretty wonky shit to me over the last twenty years. I always get so scared when I have had to see a GP doc, cuz well it sucks to talk about whether its FND or something serious, and it always stresses me out to the hilt. I guess the bright side is I have good meds for sleep, but even that has been hard as everything just hurts so dang much. And I am a bit worried about work, but honestly, unless it's just a shit night, my job is pretty easy. I don't actually get to many crisis calls and the clients we have right now pretty much only get up to go to the bathroom. So I can just chill as long as I stay awake. But I'm not sure about the driving thing, and Jason will have to sign a confidentiality agreement and still have to drop me off at the end of the alley. So yay for my ankles. Ugh sorry to be all whiny, just freeking out a little bit cuz I am scared to death, either way, this goes, I either have something not right with me, or its conversion in which case that is on my to fix and figure out what I am not dealing with. Lord I hate being brain damaged, I say that because the conversion disorder is caused by the rewiring of my brain from a young age due to abuse from about age three to 19 and a couple of bad marriages. Okay done rambling now, going to try to go get some sleep. Than you for listening to me whine.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

There was a time in my life when my son was 4-5 that I was under so much stress and getting so little sleep that my face was ticking.
I never went to the doctor...it was obvious enough what it was. Life hasn't been that stressful since, after a year or so the ticks went away and never came back.
Around that same time...I was getting this whole skin rash thing. Again...looking back...I can see that it was directly related to all of the stress that I was under.
The thing about Mind-Body ....is that it goes both ways.
In other words, it's not like Vegas, because what happens in the mind doesn't just stay there...because our minds are attached to our bodies...
(I'm not sure that I said that clearly...)
Supportive hugs, Patti
I don't know that recommending tanning would be good for anyone but it worked for me with a rash...….xo
For example...the drug that's used to reverse opioid overdoses...narcan.
It reverses the placebo effect too.
As in neither the doctor nor the patient know who's getting the narcan, and it will reverse an "Effect"...that's supposedly "all in our minds".
Only it can't just all be in our minds...can it...if some drug can reverse it.
And it's not "all just conversion". That's a real neurological flip a flop IIRC, so.... Do what you can to breathe through what you can, and all the usual trite advice. It's meant well, and meant sincerely, but I'm too brain-fried to be any better today.
I have a very severe type of gastroparesis that is instantly triggered by any mental distress. It’s a real physical illness, but my neurologists, PCMs, and mental health providers have called it a “stress illness”, because it’s the first system to instantly respond to any stress. My interstitial cystitis is also considered a “stress illness” even though it was cause by effects of medication therapies during my battle with bladder cancer 14 years ago. Even the urologists & gastroenterologists have driven home the connection between the physical illnesses and stress.
It’s been my own living nightmare to fight against for nearly 15 years. Lately this fight has gone to a “global extinction” level threat. So I really feel for you Bsnuggles.
Do your doctors all communicate with each other about your health problems right now? In the past, it was a huge help to have my doctors regularly updating each other about all my complicated health issues. It made it easier for them to trace symptoms that could be caused any number of physical and mental problems I have. It also reduced a lot of stress, fears, and confusion during “crisis” times because I wasn’t having to explain things I barely understood that different doctors managed or have to endlessly call everyone to make sure one treatment wouldn’t interfere with the others.
The recent & new problems from onset of anaphylaxis caused so much trauma, I’m getting a new crash course in having PTSD and keeping all my doctors up to speed is a constant struggle right now. They’re all in the same healthcare network but they aren’t talking to each other, paying attention to what others are doing or even checking/reviewing the serious changes to my health issues. Now I’m getting physically worse and I’ve no idea who I should see for what. PTSD & cognitive/memory dysfunction from shock resulting in cardiac arrest make me the wrong person to be updating them. The result of this struggle has been the source of so much anxiety & fear, I have panic attacks during visits, meltdowns after, and live in constant fear of getting sick and terror of the physical symptoms that have been getting worse.
Managing mental health and the chronic illnesses that are affected by it is a battle I have had to fight many times. Making sure all your care team and providers are in the loop is one of the few things that has reduced the strain on my already “fried” and “exhausted” brain.
It can help having a friend or family member help update everyone else on your behalf as the complications and stress you’ve been facing right now are more than you should have to manage. If you have someone to be be an advocate while you heal, it can prevent adding to the “overload” you’re facing.
Right now, I don’t have access to an advocate, I resort to keep a “list” of updates, questions, and symptoms which I prepare for each doctor. Or I send email updates as soon as there are changes.
None of these are perfect but they help and are flexible enough to find one that works with different providers.
Everything in our bodies are connected and when one system breaks down or weakens, the others are affected. I wish more doctors remembered this, especially for people with PTSD, anxiety and other mental health issues. The mind and body aren’t independent, what bad for one can be just as toxic for all the rest.
Sending you lots of strength, support, hugs, and luck. As soon as I can track down some “clarity” and “anti-confusion” I’ll sent them your way. Wishing you all the best.
So I’m overwhelmed and hypersensitive, and prone to ranting, so please forgive me.
Really hope and wish you and everyone here all the best. Hugs
I agree to Vavita, rant away. I get it! As for my docs, no they are not all up to date and that is freaking me out too. I went five years with no meds, then last November shit hit the fan with my job, taking care of adults with mental and physical disabilities. On the same night, I had to stop once from trying to harm herself with shards of broken C.D.'s I physically had to stop her, it took about twenty minutes for my help to arrive, then as I was leaving my shift I heard one of the boys in the other apartment scream, His roommate was beating him across the belly with a 2x4. Later that week I got a call saying my father who was recently found in Walmart eating off the shelves, and my uncle took guardianship and put him in a nursing home at age 50 because he is perma fried from years of drugs and alcohol had tried to commit suicide. I completely lost my shit, but called in all the mental docs, spent two weeks being babysat so I didn't have to go to a psych ward again. And well life's just been a damn mess lately. So During that five years, I switched Docs, so these docs don't know all the conversion stuff and I am good with that. It's still pretty much considered a mental thing in the U.S. But FND is being studies a lot by other countries and this one some. Its just getting the info out there. As for my visit today, my white count is a bit elevated and there is blood in my urine but all other testing came back normal, the only thing not to come back is Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I did start some antibiotics and hopefully, I will feel better in a few days. Thank you for your comments and support it is very much appreciated!
And No I quit that facility, the group I had that night wasn't even my group, but the training was horrid to begin with and even after a year I still was not MANT (restraining trained) It was more then I could take. The bright side is someone upstairs was watching because about that same time a part-time position for nights became available at our local Domestic Violence and Sexual Assualt Shelter/Crises line. Which is a job I have wanted for a long time and I finally have my foot in the door?
As for my Dad, frankly I'm still pissed at him so I haven't been down there in awhile, but that is a whole other story for another day. The funny shit though is my mother got a call from where they have him and they offered her a job, she said hell no you can't even offer me enough money. LOL, They were married at fifteen, divorced by sixteen and she never looked back.
The prurigo nodularis manifestation was awful itching, itching so bad I drew blood scratching. I bought creams and sprays, some of them over the counter and some prescriptions. I smoke bombed my house for bugs and had an exterminator spray in my house.
It hasn't totally stopped, but it's mostly gone. How" Coming here to remind myself where it comes from, and being kind to myself about it. The itching symptoms that once had felt like bugs jumping on my legs and biting them reduced more and more until they mostly went away and I could sleep at night again. It's been a year.
I'm sorry if I'm repeating anything already said here, I have a hard time reading through a lot of information. Neurological disorders can cause some of the creepiest reactions. For the longest time, everything that happened to me was contributed to PTSD, stress, nerves & anxiety. I was blown off. I was in so much pain & it was getting worse. After some time I knew this wasn't right. The pain and exhaustion got to be unbearable. My brain wasn't connecting. I was looking and looking for answers & no one would listen. Turns out I have MS for starters. More tests are needed to find out what stage & what else might be happening in there. Tumors, etc.
Listen to your body. If it's telling you this is too much then please, see your doctor. You sound like you've got your shit together though ツ It's amazing they can connect that to your PTSD.
i wasn't able to read what all the others said.
i am new to conversion disorder - wow. wow, some more.
i'm seconding the encouragement that it is good to check on things that MAY be from something else.
i've had years of being not listened to or treated less than professionally by specialists - only to find out, that i do have treatable illness as well as CPTSD.
gentlest hugs, we're with you - AND no discounting of conversion disorder's symptoms.
i get seizures from PTSD. i am on anti seizure medication that has been prescribed for epilepsy - the _______- neurologist who prescribed it ofr me, told me that he is not sure if i have epilepsy or some other seizure disorder - OR if my seizures are caused by extreme PTSD related stress. (please forgive me - having difficulties articulating thoughts). i am still having break thru seizures at high dose medication
many drs treat patients who have PTSD seizures as if they are having pseudo seizures. ... i have been told by people that they were not prescribed medication for the seizures but were snet to psychiatrists ??? or psycho-somatic seizures? that isn't how mine were treated... i think that mya have been the only kindness or professional seeming treatment i ultimately received there.
