Anonymity is a big tradition in the original support groups related to AA and Alanon, where they remind us all that it's not only about our own anonymity, but also that of the person next to us by association as well. Some of us may feel perfectly safe and may actually enjoy perfect safety, but that may not be true of the member next to us, so we guard our own anonymity sometimes for their sake, not just our own.
