CPTSD vs PTSD

This is probably a question for my counselor and I will ask her should I remember to but I keep seeing CPTSD talked about here and I'm wondering what makes it more complex than PTSD. PTSD is pretty darn complex isn't it!?

The "complex" refers to repetitive trauma rather than a singular event. A combat trauma might be PTSD. A prisoner of war might suffer cPTSD.

oh. I see. I hate this having to own stuff thing. I'll never be okay without owning it but I don't see it happening anytime soon really.

i have combat PTSD. i think cPTSD is way, way worse.

The shrink who explained it to me liked bone analogies. She explained it as the diff between a bone which has been broken in one spot and a bone which has been repeatedly shattered.

Gentle empathy on the difficulty of, taking ownership of what has been done to us, but I surely don't want to trust my perpetrators who are responsible for my condition to take charge of my healing process. Nor do I want to live the life they prepared for me. Perhaps if we see it as taking ownership of healing process more than the injuries?

In 1974, when combat PTSD was still being called "Shell Shock," the Army Shrink who diagnosed my "Trauma Induced Amnesia" was working a *radical* theory he brought back from the MASH units of Viet Nam which he was calling, "Civilian Shell Shock." His premise was simply that the lack of training and support does NOT make civilians immune to shell shock.

Based on that theory, he put me in a support group with his shell shock patients and damned if he wasn't right. The group was downright magical.

    I did the dumbest thing today.  I charged my earbuds, unplugged the block and put the block in my little bag instead of the earbuds.  I wasn't happy about that when I got to the gym.  What a dummy!
