My therapist has diagnosed me with PTSD resulting from a traumatic brain injury from a fall. I am unable to retrieve memories from my children's childhood. I'm told I need trauma treatment, it is not working well thus far. Does anyone have suggestions on how to cope with this memory loss. It is devastating. My children are everything. Looking at photos only traumatizes me more. I'm traumatized so easily I've become agoraphobic.

Sometimes, I think I have ODD. I can be oppositional. It seems that the only times that I feel like cleaning are when I should be doing something else or I have to go somewhere. Well, not everytime but most of the time. Yesterday, I was supposed to be doing online training for work but instead, I decided to work on my kitchen table. Most of the time, I don't know where to start and give...

I have a possible new diagnosis to discuss with my therapist tomorrow. It might be the answer to a question that I have had since I was 19. It's called Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD). It happens to a large percentage of people with ADHD, which I have. Actually, I have been watching videos about ADD/ADHD lately. I remember my Mom telling me that she watched a show on ADD and she...
How long has it been since the fall? How long have you been in treatment? Have you tried letting those precious children tell you their tales about those pictures?
Welcome to the forum, sunnyfan.
I repressed memories of my childhood.
I pushed aside what hurt so I couldn't feel it.
That said, i can't remember 1996 due to a medication issue---and while I'm not traumatized, I'm unsettled when my husband or family or friends say things like "Oh we did that!" and I do NOT know that....
I fially did come to accept it---with patience, patience, patience....
Memory involves so much complexity in the brain that even experts aren't too expert.
In any case, big gentle hugs and do not beat yourself up, okay? be kind to you. be patient with you.

I get hit with memories from smells from time to time, memories I could never access through my own effort. And at times, just like my emotions go numb and dissociate from PTSD from time to time, I also entirely lose my sense of smell for an hour or two.
Yeah, patience, like arfie said. I can say one thing for sure: despite the fact that it isn't punctual at all, memory is persistent, one way or another.
I definitely agree it will take time to remember everything but here are some things I have read in my studies of PTSD. I have had some medium level success with acupuncture, reiki and even hypnosis. Things that would normally stimulate memories like Ginko or anti-dementia meds are a no go with trauma and PTSD. Overall welcome to the forum, and we are all here for you!
But sometimes you can get some back with a photobook of your kids. If you can repeat the movements of what that photo was about. like, pushing them on swings, the body movement memory may kick in the actual memory. Worth a try, but depending on age, don't hurt yourself.
