Confrontation vs. Talking it Through

arfie
Been having flashbacks to various confrontations I have had with parents and siblings. I believe the triggers are built around my current transitions to living with my son and his family in a 3 bedroom homestead designed for 2 retired geezers on a fixed income. So far, so good on the current transition. It is still spooky, but stable. I find myself using my flashbacks as reminders of what NOT to do. "Small steps, big faith and lots of prayer" is the current family mantra.
Is there a difference between confrontation and talking through tough issues? My flashbacks are carrying me back to some seriously gnasty confrontations which lead to psychic battle scars for all. Surely not wanting repeat performances. . .
Just chewing. . . Thoughts and opines welcome.

Wishing you continued well. Wish me well with going back to work. I'm not emotionally up to it after the kidney infection, but school starts back up tomorrow and waits for no one.
Ideally I think talking things through is very healthy.
However if there is no listening and honesty on the other side I would not think there is a real relationship.
talking things through for me happens in healthy relationships.
Confrontation is for abusers and another step in recovery a way of asserting one self for once.
When I am willing to talk it through, that connection is critical. Timing is not part of it. It is all of it. I will wait until all conditions are primed before I expect anything of you.
Maybe. . .

It's hard to express what I mean. I had to learn to talk through instead of avoid-rather-than-confront.
Maybe set time limits? "We'll talk about this for X minutes, then get back to it in a day or two...." ???
Gentle support
You talk things trough with reasonable people who can also thank things through with honesty...
I think because this is a PTSD group I am assuming confrontation means holding the people responsible for the abuse and our PTSD accountable.....
With real friends I agree its timing and tone and a healthy way of communicating.
