I am 21 and a mother to a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Back in October I got into a minor car accident with my kids in the car. I have my permit still and it is preventing me from getting my license and to get a job. I am a stay at home mother. Every time I try to drive I hold my breath or hyperventilate, just want to stomp on the breaks n cry or speed across the road as if I didn't have time to cross. I've tried breathing in my mouth n out my nose but it really don't help I still freak out. I don't know what to do:(

Jay's podcasts are really good. I watch them on YouTube for free. Today, I watched his video about motivation. In fact, I've been watching a few videos on this subject. Jay gave us an assignment to complete the following sentence: I am stuck because? I don't describe myself as stuck, but to finish the sentence, I would say that I am stuck because I am tired. Does anyone here have a comfort item you carry with you when you go out? For example this is my doll, Annie, and I've recently been bringing her with me when I run errrands flor have an appointment. Holding her comforts me. I've bought her clothes, crocheted for her, I recently bought a personalized blanket with her name on it. Just wondering if anyone else has a comfort item.

I am a very confident driver, experienced with a big variety of vehicles, but I get the driving jitters after a frightening traffic blunder or while driving vehicles I am not comfortable with. I know, not the same thing as what you are experiencing, but. . .
For what it's worth, I stop as often as I need to when I have the driving jitters. If I have to stop every 100 feet, so be it. I feel like a threat to public safety when I don't, multiplied by infinity when there are children in the car. When I stop, I get out of the vehicle and do some stretches and shakes until my nerves are steady again.
Hope you find what works for you, Ash. It is not an easy handicap in our carbaric world.
I think it may take some time and practice to get your confidence back .... And driving lessons as Patti wrote could be a big help.... Big hug.....xo
