Being reminded of something horrible

one of the worst things of carrying very visible scars is fact that you're going to be asked to explain them perpetually. until you die, people are going to want to know what the hell happened to do that to ones body. and i get...but, mine is such an intricate story, mine is such a deep and delicate subject for me, bc my PTSD started as a child with abuse, constant abuse and a little molestation, but...an accident i had 4 years ago was so insanely traumatic that people just don't understand.
to sum it up, i had my arm SLOWLY crushed and pulled into a set of rolling pins about a 1/2 inch apart, and then when it got to my shoulder, it ripped my arm off. it was slow, it was excrutiating, and i couldnt reach the off switch until it got up to my shoulder so i had no choice but to bite "the buller" as they say and live through my arm being turned into powder, and then, when i could finally turn it off, i had to hit reverse, and pull it back through, so any swelling or resizing or readjusting my arm had done, was about to be effed up all over again. it was horrifying, it gives me nightmares four years later...and i just wish i could hide so i wouldnt constantly be reminded of it.
Ok sorry, that's super depressing.

I'm alive, I'm sleeping like a rock, and for some reason I wanted cherry juice so that seems to be helping. (??? Weirdo that I am.)***Infamous therapies over history:1. The Attic. The madwoman in the attic is a motif in literature going waaaaaay back: the nutty female relative is locked in the attic. (See: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte for a grotesquely racist version of it, and Charlotte Perkins...

Welcome to the Perseid meteor showers, the "biggies" usually every year. (The Leonids beat 'em one year IMHO).AND today much of the northern hemisphere will see 5 to 99% solar eclipse. How cool is that? Your best bet is to be in the UK or norhtern Spain, where totality is excellent before sundown. Me, I'll get a super duper tiny itty bitty slice of it, so little that it won't be noticeable. New...

How's your arm? Mine has fairly small scars overall nowadays. Time doesn't fade them all the way, but I rub in lots of vitamin E and aloe vera gel and ... Well, at least I FEEL Like I am doing something.
Whenever I meet a new doc for whatever reason ---- I hear, "What the he*** happened to you?"
And my process is "well, my dad and his darling princess thought I was a great target, so my body has some marks, and my X-rays ain't pretty, and thanks for reminding e, now I need to freak out!"
I see my scars. Left arm, ribcage, left leg, even my chin ---- That one was bigger when I was smaller, used to take up a different "position" ---- and it is absolutely *awful* when people ask.
Or assume.
No.
Nothing that easy.
I just say, "I was a clumsy kid" most of th etime, and walk away... But ....
After the terror you felt? I am amazed you are able to discuss it at all! I applaud your courage. I still have trouble discussing a lot of things....
Gentle support...
I see scars as reminders that we are survivors.
that's all they have to be, and that's at the most, if u choose so. i choose my scars to be...well, honestly , it depends on the day, but my arm has a surprising amount of usage and range after what happened, i would post photos but i dont know how
happiness to you.
That was 20 years ago now. I suppose there are invisible scars from that still. As for visible scars, I have one on my arm from when I was a kid. All I had was a bee sting on the inside of my arm opposite my elbow. But when I went and asked for alcohol to be put on the sting the alcohol bottle got mixed up with a bottle of concentrated acid. I was told to close my arm and wait.
TRIGGER WARNING
It wasn't fun having mentally ill parents, because weird injuries like this one kept happening under their attempted care. Parenting like this ran in my family; all 6 of my cousins by my dad's younger sister were taken from her one by one by social workers because they were unsafe. Because my parents had moved us to South America, there were no social workers to take me out to safe foster care, which was the idea.
So when acid was poured on me instead of alcohol, when I straightened my arm up, the skin just peeled off from both sides to reveal burning down to the meat, veins, and arteries of my arm. Another time my left leg was broken and I was left to hobble on it for a whole day before getting it set in a cast, and after that it was a broken foot. All on my left side.
I haven't been hurt like that again since I began living alone, not hurt physically as when I lived with my parents nor hurt emotionally as when I lived with my spouse. It's not ideal, maybe, but it's what works best for me..
