The "Sucking Black Hole" where my own family of origin lives is not very real to the family back in Austin. Most days I think I can take the "very" out of that sentence. The Austin family is functionally clueless. They have no live data to work with. When The Arf builds a wall, it is a wall to be reckoned with.
But I continually visualize an oscillating connection between my sucking black hole and the family dysfunctions in Austin. My senses cannot validate the disenfranchised souls on the East Coast as the source. My senses keep tuning to the small town family business folk a comparatively short distance north of the motel room I am currently sitting in. My mother's intensely German family. I met them for the first time in 2005 after my father's death. I was received like a conquering hero. They, too, are suffering the plight of family business folk whose descendants keep wandering off to parts unknown, never to return. I have done next to nothing with that hero's welcome. An awful lot of my therapy has been centered around "The Family Savior" role in which gave me my over-developed sense of responsibility. http://www.recoveredfamily.com/codependency/codependency-and-family-roles.aspx
So much sorting and so little brain power. . .
Input welcome.

However, it is more complex with family. You can't pass limb damage on to succeeding generations. The family dysfunction cycles goes on and on and on and on and on, with or without the family presence.
Still. . . I remain skeptical that the bonds can be reforged once they are broken, no matter who made the decision to make the break. Done is done. Gone is gone. Isn't it?
Gentle hugs arfie.
