Hi everyone. Its been a while since ive been on here but I'm feeling pretty confused lately and you all have so much insight that I thought I might be able to find some wisdom here.
About three years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD. I had a lot of trauma related issues and honestly they got worse before they got better.
Then, I went to school out of state. I found that I left a lot of my triggers at home and I felt like I opened up a bit more with people I was close to about what really happened. I have a therapist on campus and having people around all the time and campus security made me feel so secure and safe.
Now, I am home again, and I know in a few months I will leave, but I feel like I cannot get my abuser out of my mind. I've not had the nightmares I used to, and I don't even know if I can say I have PTSD if Im not having nightmares and flashbacks anymore.
I feel like its almost.. An intrusive thought? I feel like I can't get him out of my mind. I m not having flashbacks, just thoughts about what happened that feel out of my control. It replays in my head but I don't feel myself as if I'm there.. Does that make sense? Its taking a toll on me and I don't even know how to help myself.
I question my diagnosis not because I'm worried about if I've got the right label, its just that everything has a proper treatment and I feel like I'm not sure if I can fight this alone right now, and if I could I don't knows how to go about it.
Can anyone relate to this? Am I misunderstanding everything completely? I feel like I know nothing.

Healing Hugs
Another thought is finding a free group to go to. I know in my area depending on what kind of trauma you have they offer some free groups. Sending healing hugs
Peer support groups are and have long been my healing continuity. The ones lacking a pro in need of a paycheck. They are free. Even with "good insurance," psychiatric services are expensive. I tend to treat pros like high dollar reference books. Good info available, but they never leave the library and the goal is to get them back on the shelf in exactly the same condition I found them. Strictly nothing personal.
It be my peers who have my back in these bloody trenches. . . The brass just issues orders and count losses on a clean white board.
Strictly personal. . .
Gentle support while you find what works for you. Strictly personal. . .
AloneNaturally, thanks for sending me those techniques, I'm definitely gonna try to work on grounding.
And I do think I'm gonna give in and go to a group.. It makes me nervous and but I feel like I need to figure something out to at least stay on a positive path.
Arfie, youre absolutely right and triggers aren't the real problem. I guess its easier for me to just run away from triggers? Cant do that forever, though.
Also, I like your analogy for doctors - reference books. It made me think
