I am to my end because I am scared and very concerned. I saw my counselor today, in a way she acted irritated. She said that my symptoms are severe and I have a lot of issues going on. Four years ago, it's like I died, not physically but like my soul died. My grandma passed away and my uncle called us meaning my mom and I to let her know that we needed to call her because she was going to die or pass on. I was able to call her and at least say goodbye. My mom and I went over to Bakersfield California to see my uncle and his family due to the loss of my grandma, it was then that my uncle asked my mom if my mom would move over there to keep the family home and so that my other cousin not the one that abused me wouldnt get my grandma's house for her stealing money from my grandma, like my mom I felt a sense of obligation to go over and help so I did.
My mom and I were there for about two weeks and that's when things turned for the worse, that's when my life would be changed forever. My cousin , he's a known sex offender for rape and he's also a meth addict/drug dealer. he started using meth without my mom and uncle knowing and at the time I covered for him because I knew if someone knew about it he would be back in prison and he had been in prison for most of his life, I protected him even though it went against my morals and beliefs as a person, I had already lost my grandma I didnt want to lose more family. Well one night, he used meth and forced me to take it too, all I remember is it being daylight then it being night and him just kicking, and hitting me, I was bruised on my arms and legs, he even stabbed me, I have the scar still to this day. The abuse happened on a weekend, and at night so weekend and nights are especially hard for me. AFter he abused me, i was on ice for a whole day after I was that sore, i dont think nobody know's that but I was, I was extremely sore. He had the look of a killer, I thought I was really going to die that night and sometimes I feel like maybe I should have. The abuse was every type of abuse you could imagine: verbal, physical, sexual, and financial, he beat me down mentally, always used to say " i'm going to break you down to where nobody else can break, make or take from you ever again". He raped me, tied me up, took knives to me: my neck, my stomach, and even toward my reproductive area, he would say I will slice you or slit you from slit to slit to where you can never have kids again. He would take me out to the orange groves and force me to get naked and perform sexual acts on him, where if someone caught us they would wonder what was going on. I was extremely embarrased and scared to come forward about what was going on. he would say the cops wouldnt believe me, the doctors wouldnt believe me, my family would dis own me , I would lose my home, my car, everything , it felt like my whole life was coming down around me. Anyways what I am trying to get at is I was a highly functional person, I went to school, I took care of business, I had a job, I was a caregiver, I used to care about the people that I take care of, now it's like I am just numb to everything around me. My parents used to be proud of me, I feel like I have let them down, because the person that they once knew wouldnt take no crap from nobody, you could kind of say I was an aggressor in a way, even though I never harmed anyone. My dad is using drugs and has nothing to do with me so I feel like I have lost him too. I have lost two cars, two houses, my sense of self, my identity, i used to think I was a good person, now I feel like I am this horrible nobody that wont ever recover, I am scared. Has anyone been abused, and did you feel like you have lost yourself, how do i get myself back? or am I just going to feel dead internally forever. I cant handle this pain, and on top of that no professionals seem to understand except to just lock me up. what should I do.

Yes, unfortunately, many of us here have been abused. Speaking for myself, yes, I did feel like I lost myself. I did get myself back, but I was changed by the extreme experiences I survived. In some ways I was strengthened, I had more extreme survival instincts created by real experience. But in other ways, I had a loss to mourn, in my case the loss of some innocence about the world. I found out you can't turn back time, and others can't fix it for you. It's not fair, but the healing journey is ours.
That's where a support group helps. I truly know from what you wrote that you understand like others can't what I went through in my own case, so I know I'm not the only one. I can take what professionals have to offer, and then what you have to offer, and put it together to get through day by day as I become a healed person.
...your therapist apparently does not know anything about trauma.
You are a good person, still...the dead feeling is...probably depression.
Won't EVER recover? That's warped thinking. You have not found the way to get better YET.
Where's your anger?
If your therapist doesn't understand...they may have only book smarts to go by. Not experienced themselves, or not anywhere in the realm of experience.
I know because of what I'm learning that what is used is like kool aide to my life experience, but I am trying just in case I might help someone else that has only had scoffs at their stories. If I can at least try, then for me ..well that will carry it's own strength and purpose towards healing.
I can not forget, but I can change what I do from today forward. Make the history work to help me.
I really had problems for a long time with the word "survivor",I hated when that word was used about me. I couldn't identify myself with it.
I am closer now to that, not yet, but closer.
Take time to rest after this post and remember you were strong enough to post it. These types of honesty with yourself can drain your energy.....then slowly work to remove the things that YOU were not responsible for. He was is and will always be sick in a way that he can't see what was wrong in what he did. You were caught in a reactionary mode , due to his actions.
small steps.
Hugs, of support, Jewell
Ps There are still things I can't even type or say, but can never forget. But at what point does that make me unable to work on my own healing? Not much anymore because it won't change it. I wasn't the one who had the control. Just the reactions.
The End is but another Beginning. ~Author Unknown
Your post triggered me to flashbacks to the late 80s when I was going through my first diagnosed set of psychotic breaks. Please don't feel guilty that you triggered me. I hold it as a good thing when members of my support group trigger me. Each and every time I work through the process within my peer support net, I feel better able to work it through in the big, bad, callous world.
Yes, it felt like the end of the world. My business was crumbling. My adolescent sons were working their ways into the juvenile justice system. My beloved and I were taunting one another like brats on a jungle gym for grown-ups.
In many ways, it was the end of the world, at least as I knew it. For certain many of my values and expectations have shifted radically. The beginning which came with that end was the growth of my peer support net. With that gentle guidance, I found myself looking to places the Old Me would never have looked. Methinks it was the beginning of serenity.
Just me. . . Hope I am not co-opting your thread.
Healing Happens, Happy. Hope it happens to you.
Gentle support. For sure, it is allot to sort.
(((((((((((((~~~~~~~HappynAZ~~~~~~~)))))))))))))
I was also changed. Mostly, It hink, for the better. It kept me from being oblivious to pain in others, to pain in the world. And for the worse. Like life for anyone, only it feels much much much more intense.
What you survived, Happy, was so like my uncle who was a POW. I cried seeing the parallels. So perhaps if your counselor can see you as someone who was, indeed, a Prisoner Of War (your cousin's war to unmake you as aperson), maybe that would help?
Gentlest healing purrs to you, and I hope you know that we're here, and that it's okay to feel as if you're an incomplete puzzle. I feel like that often, if not always, like I'm a jigsaw puzzle and the picture changes and I have to reassemble the pieces to catch up....
Gnetle purrs,
Leo
You can just lounge around quietly if you like. We all need a break sometimes, relax and feel the breeze.
I find a simple lesson in that. We and all that may have effected us, are still here, still reaching out hands or for hands.
Either way not as alone as we think. The same Jet stream moves that breeze to us all.
Breathe.
I work 6 days a week and do all of the things I need to do to remain self-sufficient. And for that, I am eternally grateful. But there is very little if any what you would call real joy in my life at this time. This is a tough process and it takes quite a lot of time. I think what we do here on DS PTSD is survive. And that is not a bad thing at all.
I do my work and I do it very well. But most of the time, I feel as though I am numb and in a bit of a fog. Sometimes what I call the black cloud hits me, a combination of exhaustion and depression. It comes when it wants and it leaves when it wants. And I believe it will be with me for the rest of my life. I know it will and I accept it, therefore yes it sucks, but I don't fight it so it's ok.
Happy, we survive here and we support and love one-another. We love and support one-another even we disagree with each other on our threads. There is nobody like Happy, and we want to know what Happy thinks and how Happy feels. Life is precious and special. We all need Happy here, ok.
