I thought I would just add my two cents:

I was on an antibiotic protocol for a while, and did not see any improvement in my PM symptoms. Actually, I got a lot worse. I am not on Imuran and slowly, slowly improving. Physical therapy has helped the most.

As far as whether things are proven or not, I think you need to consider all possibilities. Polymyositis may be a disease, but it is really a symptom if you think about it. "Poly-myos-itis" = "many muscles inflamed." Just like an inflamed throat can have many causes, inflamed muscles can too. Maybe the cause could be viral, or maybe bacterial. If it's bacterial, maybe antibiotics can help. Maybe they didn't help me because mine wasn't bacterial (I truly believe mine came from a serious bout with Epstein-Barr, but that's never been proven).

The bottom line is, the antibiotics did nothing for me, but I am glad I tried it because there's no way I could have known. I truly believe they could help some people. If I had a sore throat from a virus and antibiotics didn't help me, I wouldn't then tell everyone with a sore throat that antibiotics are useless.

As far as the gluten-free diet goes: why not try it? It can only help you. Gluten isn't GOOD for anyone.

Do not accept what doctors say as definite. They usually have good intentions, and they want to help you, but they are human and can be wrong. But I'm preaching to the choir here...

There are many people who do get worse before getting better when they are on the antibiotic treatment. That is call a Herxheimers reaction. People should have micoplasma testing to try and isolate what antibiotic will work for them. the bottom line is this disease does not go away with conventional treatment. The symptoms might because they are being smothered by drugs that mask them. I am cured and so are many others who have done the treatment I have done. I was asked to join this group to help those who truly want help. There is NO room in my life to defend my position to negative disbelievers. I maintain that I am here to help anyone who is serious about getting better. Feel free to contact me. Alright gang, I'm pipping in on this one. First to all those that are going to Dr. Franko office or have been, please contact me. I am a patent of Dr. Lanlande's Maybe we can get together and go over blood work, treatments extra some time.
First I want to say, that this disease in it's many forms have been treated similarly by physician's for many years. This doesn't mean it's right or wrong. It's the information they have and continue to pass it forward. Then there are those that like to think out side the box, ie, Dr. Franko. with the antibiotic treatment.
There has got to be a need for this treatment, and if your Mycoplasma's are out of wack, like mine are, probably the worst case that office has ever seen, then people please be open to the facts that there are good reason to take the antibiotics.
The bigger picture here should be, "why are we in this boat" not necessarily how we treat it. If we can come together and see what environmental issues caused this, then we can find how to control it or prevent it.
Personal Message to Micheal. Your stuck in thinking your right. That will get you no where. If something is working for you, then good for you. I was married to a physician, so I think I might have an insight to the medical world. It's not all that and they are still learning. That's a duh.

I did mention Adreset before. It's the rhodiola rosea that apparently give you the energy within the product, but I can't discount the Cordycepic acid and Panax ginseng either.

Thank you for your incite. There are those who will never question the word of a doctor. Those people will be stuck in the dame spot tomorrow. Those willing to think outside of the box and research do tend to get better. One lady I had helped with Dermatomyositis was given two years to live. She did the treatment, changed her diet and ballroom dances 8 hours at a time. As my doctor said about me....."you can not argue with success?" I do believe that I was given the disease to find a way to get well and help others. That is my objective.

Beware of Witch doctors

I know from the research that I have read, that DM & PM can NOT be cured. I think the discussions that I have read are proof that biochemists and people involved in research need to find better methods for treating our disease. ALL of the medications used to treat DM and PM simply slow down the processes of the disease. The medications do not stop complications from occurring later and the medications can cause serious side effects that make our disease even worse.

If someone truly has DM or PM then antibiotics will not cure the disease. I have read glowing accounts from Dr. Mercola's website on "cures." If there REALLY was a cure for DM and PM then doctors would have everyone using the medications. Diabetes is believed to be caused by a virus and today there is still no cure. Infact, the type of insulin used today is WORSE because it is human DNA insulin. Beef and pork insulin does a superior job, but the FDA eliminated the use of beef & pork. Our nation is retrogressing is so many ways and it is obvious with diabetic research.

I think if someone wants to try antibiotics as an approach to DM or PM then that is fine, but do not expect to be cured.

I would like to ask If IamLianne has actually been cured by antibiotics, then where is the research paper written about your miraculous cure? How many years have you been off medications? Give us the name of your doctors who supervised your miraculous treatment.
DM and PM are chronic and progressive. Most of us will develop serious lung/heart complications in a short time or a possible cancer. I would like to know how you avoided having lung/heart issues or cancer since that is the direction this disease will take in a relatively short period of time. Please feel free to outline your cure or how you went for years without complications for everyone on this site.

My General Practitioner provided me with he Monocycline. I have been off all drugs and do a gluten free diet for more than 10 years. My experience has shown me that the average doctor will not treat outside of the box. I was not willing to ruin my body by taking toxic meds. I found most Rheumatologists were resistant to the treatment yet other specialists were all for it. Trust me I did extensive research even consulted with a Dr from Stoneybrook who patented the formula for treating gum disease with Minocycline. I consulted with one of North America's leading Infectious Disease Doctors and he said (after doing research) to GO FOR IT! I come from a family of several physicians and was fortunate to be able to bypass the Doctor ego stuff and headed for a cure. I would say that 10 years with a normal CK and no symptoms of the disease is cure enough for me! People can do their own research. I found www.rheumatic.org most helpful when I was sick. I am busy enjoying life and have no time for negativity. I maintain, I am more than willing to race any disbelievers around the block but it will have to be after my hot yoga class. I am living not suffering and I hope I can be that way till the day I die.
