Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
As for antibiotics; whether or not you have a myco-plasma determines why someone might need to try this regimen. This is me by the way. This isn't suppose to be a lifetime deal.
Each of us are trying to find the answers, and some of us believe that getting off of western medicine is the way to go; namely me.
I have tried a product "Adreset" that I know personally can help someone get off of prednisone. I still have a little way to go, but it's close. Adreset gives you energy for those that are lacking in this area by the way.
Back to the gluten free diet; IamLianne, I would be willing to hear what you eat or avoid.

Long time. I recently had ultrasound test done and need to follow up with that. Found a couple areas of concern. So I will be following up shortly.

The more information we have about the possibilities of different treatments, the more it may help one of us.
I find it way more disconcerting when someone offers opinions as fact and leaves out critical words like "may".
In either case, when someone offers a comment that makes sense or doesn't, my next step is to start researching online and find what support or controversy exists.
Having been misdiagnosed until I thought my next step was death, I do know one thing and that is, we cannot totally rely on doctors. We have to be our own advocates.
Nobody has a definitive answer for what we are dealing with.
It's all still trial and error, with heavy emphasis on the error.

WE can't get cured from Polymyositis, maybe be in remission.
Being with Polymyositis is bad.False hope is worse.
