I think it is wonderful if you can take it. I will probabily try again after my diet is over (if the diet doesn't help with the IR) and adjust what I am eating.
I have only been on the Metformin now for 3 weeks and while there haven't been any negative side effects I also haven't noticed any changes as far as weight, etc... but we'll see. I'm gonna stick it out with my endocrinologist for a few months to see if my body responds to the meds, the diet, and the exercise...
The first 30 - 45 days were tough. I had lots of GI problems. I figured out pretty early on that the culprits were dairy, sweets and carbs. I modified my diet pretty severly at first, cutting out a lot of foods, but then slowly adding some back in smaller portions and balanced with healthy additions. I found the most important thing was to force myself to eat 3 times a day and try to eat heathily.
I had gained 50 pounds in 12 months thanks to PCOS and the removal of one of my ovaries. So far I've lost 18 of that with Metformin and watching my diet. (I'm going through IVF, so I can't do much exercise right now, so that's not a contributing factor.)
It took about 60 days for the weight to start to come off, so if you just started...hang in there!!
