Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Support Group
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a progressive, genetic disorder of the kidneys. It occurs in humans and other organisms. PKD is characterised by the presence of multiple cysts (polycystic) in both kidneys. The disease can also damage the liver, pancreas and rarely the heart and brain.
I am seeing my doctor tomorrow, so will print out some of this info, as well as Norma's and her brother's stories, and check with him. At least my doctor is form Poland, so he was trained by someone besides those that are bought out by the big pharmas who influence the med schools here in this country (USA). But mostly I am hopeful for another friend and for my daughter. I am pretty sure that it looks like it won't effect my immunosuppressants, so it would be good to keep my old native kidneys from getting worse, and be able to make it through life without having to have them out. We shall see. Will report in after, but I don't know that he will be doing any cartwheels about this, he is a medical doctor. But I want to go about this correctly.
Blessings all!
Heather

I am very happy you are doing better. Thanks for sharing with us about the Juniper Berry Oil. I took a look at the other ingredients and here is what I found. I too would like more contact info so I can share this with my nephrologist. Have you shown your results to the PKD Foundation? Maybe they can do a clinical study of the Oil? It has a diuretic property like Tolvaptan but at a fraction of the cost. You may have stumbled upon something. One of the other ingredients is royal jelly. I am a beekeeper so I am always interested in anything to do with honey.

I'm being neither negative nor positive. I just thought some might be interested in what the article has to say. There will always be cynics, of course, and each individual must make his or her own choice, but it's good to have information. Hopefully the sceptics can be proved wrong on this occasion

Be careful.
The last paragraph states:
"Some texts warn that juniper oil may be a kidney irritant, but there is no real evidence that this is the case. Nonetheless, people with serious kidney disease probably shouldn't take juniper. Safety for young children, nursing women, or those with severe liver disease has also not been established."
The question is - what do they consider to be serious kidney disease? Do people with PKD fit into that category? Our disease is very different from other CKDs.

Please know that I am not trying to influence anyone, I am just stating what has worked for my brother and myself and not encouraging anyone else to take a risk that might harm their kidneys. I can't be more clear about that so if you have any notion that I am doing otherwise, please know that I am not. I knew I was taking a risk when I posted this information, but felt that we should all be aware of what could happen if you used these drops. For us, it has been life altering.
Love,
Norma...
