Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I had a 22 year abusive relationship, physically for the first 7, and emotional controlling etc for the remainder. I eventually ended the relationship about 4 years ago.
I have always been shy, but now totally lack confidence, and confrontation scares me so much. I worry almost every day. I am so happy that I am not with him now, but I am still struggling after what he put me through.
I saw the doctor a while back, asking for help as I was getting more and more depressed, and felt it was time for counselling to help me deal with these feelings.
At first I was sent to co-ognitive therapy, but both the therapist and I, thought that I was be better off with normal 1-1 counselling first.
So I have counselling once a week for about 10 weeks. The therapist is really nice and I am comfortable around her, I feel I have learnt a few things, like questioning myself whenever I am having bad thoughts about myself. It has been good to have someone to talk to. I have about 2 sessions left. She said after that, I should have a 6 month break before requesting group/assertiveness therapy or the co-ognitive.
I just have this concern, that I have not really dealt with the issues. He has left me really messed up, and I wonder if someone trained in abusive relationship therapy would have been able to dig this out and understand better. Don't know if I am just being my usual doubting self :/
Just want to be normal again. No-one really understands how badly this has affected me, and I really need advice and help :(

I have just had a kick in the teeth and discovered that my ex was also unfaithful whilst we were together, and has been in secret relationships since we separated. Although he abused me whilst with him, and I ended the relationship, and would never take him back. It still hurts, as I stupidly thought he did love me, and in the separated 4 years, I still tiptoed around his feelings. This is probably going to be good for me, as I dont want anything to do with him now. I respect how ever the kids feel, but I dont want any type of relationship with him. He has continually lied to us all, and made us feel sorry for him being alone, when he never was. He is nothing to me.
