Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
TORTURE.
I'm so sorry for what you went
through. Are you away from
this person, now? I hope so!
The body wants to heal, and
you sound like you're still
young. Surely there are
things you can do to optimize
what's left of your immune
system and healing powers.
Could you get yourself a health
coach or a personal trainer?
Don't give up on life!
And yes. . . . . sleep deprivation
is a heinous form of abuse.
Please take good care of yourself.
And yes, I left that place years ago, but the health problems have gotten worse since then.
Good news is I met a pretty girl who seems to like me. That should keep me going a while longer. I hope my health doesn't screw it up for me though. Wish me luck.
Was it abuse?? Absolutely! Even the social worker (because I was on Medicaid) threatened to take my son out of our home if I didn't find a way to get some rest and recovery time. She was looking out for my best interest and my son's, but she didn't do it, because she knew I was a good parent who just needed help.
It's been almost 3 years since I left him. I'm still fighting the fatigue because after years of sleep deprivation, my body has been trained to stay awake and alert all the time. So, now, I have insomnia more often than not. I've had to fight hard to get my body to return to a normal sleep/wake cycle. It's getting easier, but it took a great deal of time, and medical intervention. My doctors could not find a single thing wrong with me either and I fought taking meds to sleep because I don't want to become dependent on them.
I completely understand how you feel and the frustration and pain of having to deal with a body that has had its natural rhythm thrown off. My colds last twice as long.....I've had several bouts of bronchitis that stayed in the acute phase for more than 6 weeks. It can be really depressing, which doesn't help matters, either.
Don't give up!! I recommend getting a counselor to work through the memories and upset you carry inside. I know that working through my history of abuse helped me a lot. I no longer wake up all the time once I go to sleep. I still have insomnia, but I sleep well more often than not now and that's a major improvement. And my health has greatly improved as a result!
It happened last night, I swear I was asleep and that he bumped me in the night. I awoke, he seemed to be asleep so I put it down to him nudging me. As I was drifting off again and almost asleep I felt something hit my nose I don't know for sure but I think it may have been his hand.
I could be wrong about this stuff but I was awake for a couple of hours after that. I find it hard to sleep once I wake up. A few months ago he woke me up in the night whilst he was self-pleasuring, he says he was scratching and made out i was crazy but I think he was self-pleasuring. It was very alarming, I still worry about it to this day.
I'm not sure if this is sleep deprivation but I get anxious about falling asleep these days.
I don't think anything you talked
about is "daft."
And anyone who tells you
that anything that concerns
you isn't a valid thing to be
concerned about (let alone
your father having heart
surgery). . . . .
is an EMOTIONAL ABUSER.
Re: varieties of sleep deprivation:
There's one form that is also
sexual abuse.
I know of too many tales of
women being raped while
sleeping or having fallen
asleep.
knufflesmcblimp ----
Yes. I had a few instances
of being woken from sleep.
It wasn't his major tactic,
but it happen.
I'm glad you have someone
you're interested in. But that's
separate from seeking strategies
to tend to and maximize your
overall health. I hope that you'll
look for and utilize resources
that focus on strengthening
all your physical systems.
Take good care.
Do you know of any health maximizing techniques? I cannot do much in the exercise dept. Thanks.
it is HELL!
and, as Ilene says, it's a form of torture.
a STANDARD form of torture.
I remember lying in bed, having cried for so many hours that my throat and eyes burned, begging him to let me sleep..and it would be dawn...we'd been awake all night (he seemed to possess some kind of super power to be able to stay up all night-oh yeah, it was rage!)
one time, I was really sick (not kind of sick-but probably one of the worst cold/flu's I'd ever had)...I took a nyquil just to try to get through the night. I had a fever of 101....he gently put me to bed, gave me a cup of tea, and the nyquil, sat there patting my head, checking my temp...then he started in, and kept me up all night arguing, screaming, crying, trying to get me to agree that he WASN'T abusive, that he had changed..and I begged him, BEGGED him to let me sleep..the nyquil has a sleep aid in it, plus the high temp...I would go in and out of concsiousness, and was hallucinating....
and same as you..I got sick ALL of the time...it took me months to get back my health.
just so you know, mono can knock you back quite a bit!!!
don't feel as if you'll never have your health back.
you will!!!
pay attention to what you eat..start researching healthy living practices, cut out sugar, cut down on wheat, lots of fresh veggies, living things, water...supplements-esp vitamin c, and b vitamins, vitamin d...
I've found that positive thinking makes a HUGE difference in how I feel...
have you heard of Wayne Dyer? you should check out some of his stuff. he's excellent...

Anyway, I was thinking, I've been out of college for over a year now, trying to figure out what I will do with my time and where to work. My degree is in Community Health which involves a lot of health education. Does anyone know of a good organization to work for that helps people get out of abusive homes?
3 years out and I have a trapped nerve in my neck as a result of either sleeping in a chair or being forced to spend the night in my car.
That's horrible what he did though. I don't understand why people think it's their right to do these things, or why they want to do them at all. I wish they could see the long term damage they cause. It always makes me mad that they get to go on living a happy life and leave us broken on the side of the road.
Sure you can. It doesn't have to be a lot...a few back exercises in your lounge room, walking a little more often, a few arm curls with a gallon of milk... The more you do, the healthier you'll get and the more sleep you'll get and your energy will ever so slowly come back.
I had chronic bronchitis after I left and I still get insomnia. But, I have a lot more energy now and get sick a lot less often. When you do get sick, look after yourself. Rest up, take some aspirin, see the doctor early rather than late. Make sure you get enough sun and maybe check if your vitamins are off...maybe you need some more zinc or iron.
Also, I had my first date with that girl last night and it went very well. She wants to see me again and we are supposed to go out tonight:)
