Physical & Emotional Abuse Support Group
Abuse is a general term for the treatment of someone that causes some kind of harm (to the abused person, to the abusers themselves, or to someone else) that is unlawful or wrongful. No one deserves abuse, period. Abuse can be emotional, physical, or sexual.
I have probably waited too long to join a group like this. I know I waited to long to tell my family. I was embarrassed, humiliated and felt like a failure. Luckily I have a very supportive family. The problem is that they are thousands of miles away.
This started years ago with my husband pushing me to the ground or off a chair, throwing things at me, swinging a chair or axe handle at me, grabbing me by the neck, etc. He's turned over the table with everything on it, including medications. I said the dogs would get it and they could die. He said he didn't care if they died and left me to clean it up. He has dented the kitchen sink, broken the cupboard door and put holes in the wall. He threw something at the TV hoping to break it but it didn't. He told me there is nothing the police could do because it is his house. (Not really, he hasn't paid a cent toward it. I am the only one who has.)
He would pull out SAP gloves, billy clubs and knives. He would try to make me feel how sharp the blade is. He would tell me how he knows how to kill a person. He said with one phone call he could make me disappear and my family would never find me. He has threatened to have me deported. He said if I ever touch him he would call the police and have me charged with assault. He would establish a pattern. He would get everything I own and all my money because he is a citizen and I'm just a stupid foreigner.
He has called me ever vulgar, nasty name there is. He has insulted my IQ. He says he hates my family and everyone that looks like me. My mother phoned the house and he asked her "WTF do you want?" He has smashed every gift my sister has sent to him. (I told her to stop sending him anything.) He has use every possible racial slur for my nationality there is and possibly made some up. He has accused me of infidelity multiple times. He usually doesn't let me go anywhere alone but he times me when he does. He times my calls with my mother. He dictates when I can go see his mother. She has called for me and he hasn't given me the message. He calls over there to see if I am there and when I'm coming home. When I get home he wants to know what we talked about.
He yells at me and the dogs all the time. He has threatened to kick my dog in the ribs, to toss the other out the door in the cold or to just leave them at the side of the road out in the countryside. He said I would come home one day and they would be just gone. He tells me that I'm over-sensitive and to reel in my feelings.
If I ask why he is being like this to me he tells me that the feeling of persecution is the first sign of insanity. When this first started he asked how he could make it better. I said, basically woo me all over again. He said I was insane and he wasn't going to kiss my *ss. He tells me things and later says I'm wrong and I must have misunderstood or he never said that. He says I'm just losing my mind.
He has not worked for years and I have supported him. The tells me, "when I used to have to work ..." He tells me to stick a crowbar in my wallet and buy - whatever his want is at the time. He charged things on his credit card and throws it at me saying I have to pay it because he has no money. If I say I won't he tell me then I can just pay his bankruptcy lawyer or I will end up paying it sooner or later.
I am afraid to say anything. If I do, I am a nag or picking on him. I walk on egg shells all the time for fear of angering him. He is a very spiteful, vindictive person. The dogs make too much noise playing. They are eating too loud. I am in the way. Come here now! Go get this for me. Find me that. I didn't cut the turkey right. I cut the onions too thick.
Without me he has no health insurance, no car insurance, no place to live, no food to eat ... let's face it, he has nothing. His health is starting to fail so he hasn't done anything physical lately. But, his mouth still works. He is all sweet in public but in private he talks to me like an idiot and yells at me pretty much every day, sometimes just for the sake of yelling. He always finds something.
My family thinks I should try to escape before he really does kill me or drives me insane. I would have to leave the country with basically my dogs and the clothes on my back. I know he has done and said things that no husband should. This is making me sick. I have a pain in my chest and a hollow feeling in my whole being. Why am I feeling like the bad one? Why do I feel like somehow I failed?
I cry myself to sleep the nights I can sleep. I don't let him see me cry but I'm dying inside.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
I don't even know where to begin on an exit plan.

Leaving an abusive relationship
No one should feel unsafe. If you are in an unsafe, violent relationship, you might be thinking of leaving. You do not have to leave today or do it all at once. But a safety plan can help you know what to do when you are ready to leave. Having a plan in place can help you get out safely later if you do decide to leave.

Effects of domestic violence on children

I spoke to my Mom last night which only gave me more strength. Not because of what she said but because how this affects her. No mother should have to see their child go through this kind of treatment. Abuse by a partner not only affects you but all those who care about and love you.
This is even affecting my nephew. I think it will make him a better man. He knows this is not right and is giving him an example of what NOT to do. I am happy that my current situation is serving as an education for him. Now I have to show him that women can be strong, independent and resourceful.
I pray that you leave. It will be hard but you can do it. I agrees with JoyHoly and Weridlaine. I doe s not want to add to what they said but I just want to encourage you that you are not alone. I believe in you.
My sister is making room in her home for me and both of my dogs although she has two dogs and a cat of her own. She pushes too hard at times but I think it's to make sure I don't give up. Tough love as they say.
My nephew told my mom he wished I would come fast. They keep no secrets from him and apparently it has made quite an impression on him. It's the encouragement from people like you and the concern of my family that will keep me on the road to my freedom.
I've tried to do it before, but I think I will make it this time. No, I know I will.
Yes, this is difficult, but well well worth it. You got this!!
I was second guessing myself yesterday. Emails from my sister every day - welfare check and prodding - keeps me looking forward. I have to constantly remind myself - don't look where you've been, look where you're going.
I had a slight setback yesterday. He almost went into a diabetic coma and I had to rush him to the ER. Even as sick as he was he couldn't help but be condescending and belittling. I sat in those uncomfortable chairs with him for 6 hours while he got treated. He was his snippy, sarcastic, grumpy old self when we finally headed home.
This morning he's nagging about me not doing the dishes, blah, blah, blah. I was so tired, worried and stressed yesterday I didn't care about any stupid dishes. When I said something, I was being over-sensitive and take everything the wrong way.
My dad used to say I was too trusting and caring and someday I would be hurt because of it. He has since passed but little did he know the truth he spoke. He was a good man and would be so disappointed in the "man" I married.
Then I remembered the time I had surgery. He did stay at the hospital while they operated but went home shortly after. He came back later during visiting hours but stayed maybe an hour then said he just couldn't stand sitting there any more. I felt so alone and I was in tears watching others with their loved ones. I had no one else and he knew it. His attitude was, well I came to pick you up when they released you.
Then I thought, he doesn't really care about me at all. I am only the doormat or something stuck to the bottom of his shoes. He only needs me around to do his bidding and pay his bills. I am an inconvenience all the other times.
So, it was only a minor glitch. It's not like he's dying, diabetes is controllable and he brought this episode on himself. I can't feel sorry for him and think I'm needed and wanted. He toys with my emotions and then has nasty things to say. I must go forward with the plan. I must be strong.
My life is a train wreck, I hope I can emerge from the debris. I have to.
