Phobia Support Group
A phobia (from the Greek "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject. When the fear is beyond one's control, or if the fear is interfering with daily life, then a diagnosis under one of the anxiety disorders can be made.
For me, the wrist phobia is a ripple effect of the fear of my veins being cut or injured. Ugh, it was even hard to type that sentence. Do you have other fears of injury that it could be related to? Wrists can be perceived as a very vulnerable part of our bodies, and I feel the same way about my temples, or the arches of my feet, or my neck. Have you had an injury in the past, or seen someone else be injured, in a way that you think this phobia might have evolved from?
If you notice the phobia is getting stronger, finding a really good therapist might be the next step in at least halting the progression of whatever ripple effects this fear might have in your life. I'm seeing one too, and she helps me find strength. I really hope you can too. I know it may seem impossible, but phobias can be cured with enough time and the right kind of support.
It is such an unusual phobia that it is so hard to find other people who are feeling the same to talk to. I hope knowing that you are not alone makes you feel somewhat better and if you ever want to talk about it feel free to message me :)
