The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

What I miss most

Each day I came home from work no matter how bad my day was Maxine greeted me with a wagging tail, a smile and carrying one of her stuffed toys. I really looked forward to coming home. Now it is just an empty house. It has been over four months she since died but it seems like just yesterday I was bringing her home as a new puppy.

I would not trade the time I had with her for all the money in the world.

It is hard losing your best friend. It sounds like you gave her a very good home and she was very happy. I'm sorry that you lost her. May you find some peace soon. Hugs

I know what you mean. I always looked forward to walking in the door, all through my commute home every day.

I wouldnt trade a second of it either.

Sometimes, when Im really missing Rupert, I think, I am actually so lucky to feel this way. The only reason it hurts so much is because the love was so deep. I got to have that for more than 10 precious years. He truly was my soulmate.

I dont honestly know if Rupert really does exist somewhere else now. I hope so, so much. But I still feel his love. I know he loves me. He loved me enough during his lifetime to last me for the rest of mine, and Ill never let that go.

Perhaps having her picture and a toy of hers by your door? Along with a stuffed toy you just found to give a hug too

I am so sorry for your loss. I understand exactly what you are going through. I lost my dog Lucy about 3 years ago. You don't realize how good it feels to be greeted by your loving dog until it's too late, and you're walking into an empty house. It sounds like you gave her a loving home and a great life. Over time it does get easier, though. Talking about it to others has definitely helped me as well.

I'm so sorry. The missing is so hard. I miss coming home to Jazz, I miss sleeping with him and waking up with him.... I miss how he would dance and twirl at meal time. And so much more ....

I just lost my baby Maggie Mae a dachshund on Dec 17th. She lost use of her back legs and had surgery but developed Myelomalacia and I had no choice to put her done. She was only 6 years old. I know how you feel. Your life is crushed. I had six wonderful years loving her and that's what I have to hang on to. I miss walking down the stairs and her waiting for me at the bottom and her toys all over the house. I loved her more than words could say. It's a blessing they come into our lives. I am so sorry for your loss and I feel your pain.
