The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Said goodbye to my best friend last night

where do you start ? The pain is just unbearable. everywhere i look he is there. i imagine i see and hear him. i feel so alone now. i am tormented as to where i have sent him, i decided his destiny and i am tortured by having to end his life.


i tried everything but he was suffering, it just hurts so much.


i wish i could believe that he is somewhere better, the pain gone and him being able to run about like he used to.


we spent so much time together, the space on my bed is empty. my room feels cold. 


i know that this pain will one day ease but in some ways i dont want it to. i dont want to forget him but looking at his belongings just kills me. i was thinking of giving all his toys to local dog shelter, the same one where i got him but then i feel disloyal.


he is such a wonderful dog and i love him so much.

my condolence, my friend. It is so hard when we have to decide that. They say they are at the rainbow bridge, waiting for us. Hugs

Im so sorry you had to make that decision....its the hardest we face...I hope you know of the rainbow bridge poem....google it if not....hugs bill

So very sorry my friend as I know what it feels like and it's one of the hardest things in life to experience. I lost my precious Boxer only a few months ago and she slept with me also and she was very much the daughter I never had. I loved everything about her. She is in a better place in Heaven and you will see her when it is time for you to go to Heaven. I miss my Angel every day, but it will get better, and the love will remain always.

CottonTail. My sincere condolences. Loosing a pet is very hard. I lost my kitty in 2015. His age was only 10. My little angel. Every so often I have my little vigil.for him. I was almost suicidal from the pain. Everyone grieves in their own way. Time heals all wounds. Your among friends. Many hugs.
