Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

My Boy is gone

Have you ever had a cat that just wants to be near you all the time? So loving and affectionate. Sweet-natured and gentle. He just came into my life one day and never left. He wanted out a couple of nights ago. When I called him before going to bed he didn't come. Feeling uneasy, I went to bed. He didn't come the next morning for breakfast. I knew something was wrong. I called for him and checked every place I thought he might be. I decided to drive around the block to look for him. Maybe he was at a neighbor's. Sometimes he did that. I glanced in the yard of a neighbor's and there he lay. I screamed. I couldn't stop. Please God, don't let it be Boy. He had been attacked by something.....a wild animal? Such a sweet, sweet spirit leaving this world in such a violent, horrific way. I was stunned. This is a horrible, horrible nightmare. Please God, let it be a horrible nightmare. He really is gone. In a daze, I buried him. That was yesterday. When he came into my life three years ago, I was suffering a profound depression. I think my deceased husband sent him to me because I needed affection and something to hold and love. I have other pets, but I've never felt such pure love from any pet I've ever had. Now he's gone. I can't sleep. I keep seeing his mutilated body......the body I could not believe was Boy. I feel empty and lonely. I hope we go through pain like this for a reason....I'd like to think me and my Boy will be together again one day....never to be lonely again. Thank you for reading this. I just didn't know what else to do. It hurts.

Vulpine, thank you for your kind words. Boy has been gone a little over three months now. Certain things trigger tears....even now. I see you have a kitty named Mitzi. So do I. She just showed up where I worked one day. That was March, 2000. She came home with me and she's been with me since then. I'm thinking she's about 15 or 16. Still frisky and feisty. Give your Mitzi a hug for me.

feeshee. I so feel your pain. I lost my Tommy two weeks ago. We've lost a Lab and another cat and Tommy sense March. Too much too soon. But Tommy has hurt me to the core. I loved him so much. Didn't realize how much. My husband rescued him when he was a kitten about 3 years ago. I took him to the vet to check him out. He was a straggly little thing. The vet found a place on his neck and found a worm buried in it. She got it out and it left a hole that I had to flush out with a syrenge every day. He was so good. He grew up to be a really strong little boy (we thought). He was my "Little Man". Next he got a bite by some cat on the tail and I had to doctor it. Next he got a bite on the foot and it swelled and had an abcess that had to be lanced. He got well from all of that. He came in one day and was very lethargic. He had been sleeping a lot. But he wanted out the next morning. He didn't come back for two days . I thought something had gotten him but he showed up on a Wednesday night. He was sick. I took him to the vet the next morning. She kept him a night and we brought him home Friday and I tried to get him to eat and gave him meds. The vet said he had something that some cats got , don't remember what, doesn't matter now anyway. He seemed to be doing better Monday. Then my husband called me at the dentist to say that we had to do something. He had eaten and seemed better. He then all of a sudden threw up and imediately lost control of his hind legs. He couldn't breath. He had fluid on chest. He was just panting and dragging his hind legs. I took him to the vet and had to put him down. I held him while she did. it looking into his beautiful golden eyes. My husband had his little grave dug when I got home under my tree that I call "Mom's Garden" I have elves, angels, turtles, rabbits, etc. under that tree, sort of a little garden. But I can't stop crying . Each time I look under that tree, I can't believe his little body is there. We wrapped him in a blue blanket and I can just see him. He could play and play. Was so happy just chasing leaves in the driveway or back yard. Loved him so much and have never hurt so bad. Just wanted you to know that I know your pain.

I am so sorry to hear what happened to your Boy. Yes, I've had a similar loving, cuddly cat that I adopted at 10yrs old, who's spirit jumped out of her body while in my arms 4 yrs later.
Your Boy helped you through a very rough time and you loved him just as much as he loved you! Try not to dwell on the end, there's nothing you did wrong or should have done different. Dwell on the happy times and love he brought to you and vice versa. Your story made me cry.

WOW, it was so nice to read my post (top post) again about my little girl Lucy! I had forgotten about that dream! It was so real! I was cuddling her in my arms when I suddenly woke up!!
