The loss of a pet or animal to which one has become emotionally bonded can be an intense loss, comparable with the death of a loved one. Whilst there is strong evidence that animals can feel such loss for other animals, this community focuses on human feelings, when an animal is lost, dies or otherwise is departed.

Losing my beloved Momma

As I sit here writing this post I am crying my eyes out over the fact that tomorrow at 10:30 I will have to face my worst nightmare. I will have to let go and put down one of my beloved fur babies. Momma was only with my a short time...just 2 1/2 years after I found her on the streets. See my momma has a very aggressive cancerous, inoperable tumor on the front of her lower jaw and it is has worsened. I knew her time would not be long after the initial diagnosis but I guess in the back of my head I always felt that maybe we would get a miracle. I feel so damn guilty right now...This is quickly becoming more than I can bare.

I am so sorry that you have to do this :( It is so hard to say goodbye but please remember- you gave her so much love as a rescue puppy. Finding her and giving her a new home with so much love- she knows that and will always.

I feel your pain in having to put her down...I did that just yesterday as it was Doc's time...he could not handle the deep snow and cold this year....it is such a hard thing but we know we made the right decision...I am in tears just being here now....sorry for your loss...hugs

I am so sorry for your loss. Your time together might have been short but you are both so lucky to have found each other. She got to know what it is like to be loved and in a happy home. My prayers go out to you during this difficult time.

My heart breaks for you. As ctoldo said, you gave Momma a chance for a new life and learned what being loved means. It's hard to say goodbye no matter how long they're in your life. My baby girl, Lady, was with me for 16 years and I still feel it wasn't long enough.
Know that you've come to the right place for support. I don't think I would have been able to cope f it wasn't for the people here.

Not sure which is worse-suddenly losing your furry friend or knowing that far ahead of time. But atleast knowing ahead of time you can spend extra special time with them.I'm sorry for this happening to you and yours

so sorry for your loss,i know what you have faced as ive been through it,it was the worst thing i have ever been through.you gave your furbaby a loving home after being on the streets,imagine what might have happened her if you hadn't taken her in.you had 2 and half years of love with her,treasure those memories,i hope your doing ok today,my heart breaks for you,big hugs xx

PS -- Don't feel guilty. You are doing the most humane thing possible. It's a blessing to be there with your pet in their last moments though it doesn't make it any easier. I only wish I could have been with mine. You gave her a wonderful earthly journey. It will be hard. I've been thinking about Scout nonstop lately and now I'm thinking about my cat, Tigger, who ran away 13 years ago and never came home. I feel so guilty for letting them both outside. :(
