No dog can ever be Maxine but yes,she would want you to not be alone and give another dog a loving home and in turn that doggy will look after you for Maxine too

I am truly sorry for your loss of Maxine. From what you wrote, Maxine sounds like she was a wonderful friend by your side for 14 years.
There is so many dogs now in shelters and needing good homes. I am sure one of these dogs would be very blessed to have a home with you.
You will know when the time is right for doing that. Will be thinking of you.

Im in the same boat. For me, I just know its too soon. Not having my baby still hurts too much. I dont want to risk getting another pup and having my heart not be fully open to loving him for who he is. I think I still have too much grieving to do.

Some people are wired differently, though. I have a friend who got another dog immediately when she lost hers, and she swears it was the best thing she ever did. She was able to grieve for her lost baby, Buddy, and fall in love with Cookie for who she is.

I talk to my Rupert each day. For a while, I asked him for some kind of sign from him that he was there, but Ive changed my request. Now, I just ask him to help me know when the time is right to look for our new family member. I ask him to help point me to the one he chooses for us. Im not sure anymore what I believe, but I figure it cant hurt to ask! Id really like to think that our next baby would be one that Rupert chose for us.

After Hamlet died I adopted a geriatric rescue...George & I had 125 wonderful days...I was lead to George as I trust you will be lead to your next love...!!!

I haven't done it either - though to be honest, I've gone to the local shelter and just visited a bit. I've done 3 rescues and Daisy was the most recent one. None of them are the same as each other, but we come to love each one for who they are. I try not to think of it as a "replacement", but rather a chance for a good life for another poor little soul. You'll know when the time is right.

Its been two and a half months for me since I lost my cat Jenna. Im wondering if this sadness will ever go away, I just miss her so much.

Like you said, coming home from work is probably one of the hardest times. I miss my kiss and cuddle that I get (or made her give me) : ) when I got home.

I cant even think about getting another cat and Im thinking about moving out of my apartment for a change of scenery. So being a renter, I may not be able to get another one for quite awhile.

I just cant stand the loneliness not seeing her cute little face anymore, its seriously been so hard : (

Thanks for all the kind responses. It saddens me greatly not to have her smile and tail wagging greet me everyday when I come home from work. Her friendship was priceless.

People make up albums or books in memory of their furry friends-even memorials in an area with their toys etc

I wish that I had made a video of my dog - so that I could play it over and over and over again!
