Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
I have no idea. I'm still just coming to grips with the likely possibility that I have BPD, so I'm still trying to learn what it all means.
Yeah, I have also often wondered if BPD really goes away...
My doc said it depends on how well one takes care of it and learns and does all one can to keep it at a minimum level....
but as i have experienced it is frustrating..... especially it seems so much of a constant battle with one's ownself- whether it is ones body, personality or historical baggage.
Something that helps me is learning new things ... and be super aware of my motives and being....... the more i can have access to deepest thoughts and patterns, the easier it is to manage anxieties and fears that stem from them ....
Discipline!!!!! i just acnt seem to get around it , though i am working on that... the doc said when forces tend to make you unpredictable, it helps to have neat structures and cycles of discipline to train your body to fight.
Mindfulness practices sure helped me a lot- especially this site- tarabrach.com----- since it addresses emotional as well as biological processes and therefore one can make shifts which are more organic....
i also discovered recently that i have several narcissistic traits and have a tendency of getting embroiled in my own thoughts and preoccupations with myself and cant really reach out to a world outside of me... but being critical of my habits has helped calm down earlier anxieties....
From what I have experienced in the last two years, I feel it is a very very tricky process but I feel one can be quite hopeful for it is worth fighting the very many layers and finding out what there is ...
Have I said to much!!!!!
Sorry, I think your question was rather simple.... but just wanted to put out there my experience in terms of addressing this question personally and feeling that yeah---- there is this mythic finish line it seems !! but imagine if one could reach it... :)....
my clycle of real badd panic situations have been once in every 4-5 years....
depression and anxiety generally can be between once in a month to less than that.....
it depends proportionally to situation, period cycles, and general biochemistry cycles.... ....
One could therefore keep working on personality issues.... know what ones triggers are and how to overcome it....
and keeping a mood chart should help in knowing ones bodily patterns....
It is constant for me. All day every day. If it's not mood swings, it's being irrational, or splitting, or going through derealization or depersonalization, etc. etc. Medication had helped to settle it a bit, but I have a long way to go until I no longer exhibit al these traits so intensely.
Being a parent has been very trying for me....not the actual parenting part but the part where I have to be forced into the world of other parents. My kids have nice friends but wow, their parents have been absolutely hellish at times and that has taken a huge toll on my life. I feel trapped between keeping my kids happy and by remaining neutral with parents I do not care for. There is just no escape.
I make sure I get outside every day for a good brisk walk. Meditation has been good and my new yoga class is starting to make me feel human again. I try my best to stick with clean eating but am also considering adding in some herbal supplements to help keep me balanced and calm when I need it. Focusing on myself helps keep me from becoming unraveled. I have to remind myself that I need to come first in order to take care of those around me as best I can.
