Also, as soon as i reached puberty at 12, my daddy pretty much ignored me. when we did talk, it was stressful for me. he was very curt and abrupt and said sarcastic, rude remarks alot.
Plus, just by my nature i am very sensitive. he told me how thin skinned i was and that he wished i had been a boy. he rarely smiled or laughed with me after this point, and before then, we went fishing together alot and other things. it was like he was repulsed that i was a girl. just b/c i had reached puberty didn't mean, to me, that i needed him less. i still needed to be hugged, and supported and nurtured by daddy. i loved him so much, and it was so confusing when his behavior changed. i feel as if i have been looking for daddy from that point until now.

Mom was in jail first 5 years of my life as she shot my father in the back., she was physically and emotionally abusive for years afterwards. I was witness to daily physical fights btw my mom and stepfather which usually ended in breaking glass or blood. The fights were likely alcohol related.

wow, I thought this would be easier to respond to, but I have typed and erased 3 times.... I was raised by emotionally unstable and abused parents...they tried but they themselves didn't know how to deal with me... technically I was emotionally and verbally abused, and while I have a hard time calling it neglect, they didn't really get me or protect me emotionally and tended to give the message unintentionally that I was messed up pretty much my whole childhood..I was physically over protected and wasn't allowed to be around other children and was so used to being alone and occupying myself when I got around other kids I didn't really know how to mix with em so was off by myself feeling like a freak. I think I was molested by my grandmother, but its kind of fuzzy and sometimes I think my mind made it up out of what was really innocent events....after I moved out I was in a string of horribly abusive relationships and drank and drugged my way into a lot of unsafe situations and have been beaten and raped more times than I can count without a pencil and piece of paper. I am finding out thru DBT and counselling that I have been being drawn to abusive people because I think I deserve it deep down and have even pushed normally mild mannered people into abusive behavior to hurt myself and make them the bad guy and me the victim...ok gonna hit the add button now before I freak out and erase it again...

I think i have concluded that somehow it all stems from abuse. Which type is irrelivant. Ive blocked all of my childhood out to a non thinking zone. I only found out in therapy what was right and wrong. I never would have seen it on my own. It's crazy I think people are more vulnerable than we think

I forgot to mention that one of the very reasons my dr. diagnosed me with BPD was because of verbal/mental abuse by my mom growing up. She was so critical of everything about me. Just plain hurtful at times. Till this day she has told me and my husband privately that she can't believe how much weight I've put on, when I'm only 20 lbs overweight and she's like 50 at least. Just ridiculous!

does it count as abuse if your not sure, if what happend was really or a knightmare cos i have somthing like that and i still dont know if it happend but it keeps jumping back into my brain

I was abused as a child but I remember all the things around it like the lampshade and the rug on the floor. Could be a reason why i have bdp.I also used to see a lot of dead people when I was a kid but was told they weren't there. I think I was just born overimaginative and oversensitive. My parents seem relatively absent in my growing up apart from when dad would fly of the handle and punish me for being a wicked girl. My mum never said much. To this she doesn't say much. It's a given we don't talk about how we feel. Feeling- i am not sure always what they are. I liked the sherry it took me to another place where scratchy chins don't repulse you anymore. I guess that's why I still drink.

neglected and sexually abused in the first 2 years of my life.. adopted and till i was kicked out was faced with emotional mental and pharmasudical abuse ( my parents kept me heavly drugged since i was 8) got raped... other things..

I was molested when I was 8 and it happened by two different people but at the same period of timing one a man one a woman both old he was in his70s she was in her early 60s. Growing I never really had an personality disorder I rebeled and was depressed and wanted to kill my self from a young age though. But I have read that P.D.'s are brought on by childhood emotional abuse by parents!?! Who really knows why some have it

Growing up I was put on a pedestal by my family but then dropped every time I made a mistake. I was also expected to be perfect in every way and was constantly criticized about things I couldn't change. My family is very good telling me that I am crazy, unattractive, and not good enough but of course not in those words so it can be confusing. When I was older I was also sexually abused by a few people that I thought I trusted. Mostly a result of unhealthy relationships due to low self-esteem and wanting to feel loved.

Yes I was raped at 10 and then abused again by a teacher at 16. I have a history of abusive relationships, abandonment and the like. What annoys me is that we end up labelled as mentally ill because of a crime committed by others - I guess it easier to label us as mad than society as bad!! I think our responses to life are purely understandable for people who have been hurt, abused, betrayed and abandoned through trauma or other experiences. Its not us who are mad it's society that is bad and needs looking at - grrrr!!

I agree with you megcymraeg. Socity is messed up and were the ones who are labled insane. I don't agree with what socity says is right most of the time. It wasn't like it was in the'50's when you could trust most people and didn't have to lock your door. I know abuse happened then to and it was very hushed up. I sencerly hope the tide changes for future generations and abuse is less seen and more done to the people who abuse.
