Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.

Can someone tell me why my step daughter's personality is like her mother's and mine's not like my mothers? Don't we inherit personality or do we have the freedom of Choice? I always believed we could create the personality that we wanted to except for personality disorders like for instance I developed paranoid personality disorder from years of abuse from peers and family. And just now My family finally told me I was no longer the black sheep by how much love they've shown me. It's wonderful. I took intro to Psychology and Abnormal Psychology in college and don't really get personality theory. Step daughter's mother lacks social graces and could use more compassion and sensitivity and so can the step daughter. Me and my daughter have big hearts. And that's nowhere near what I grew up against. So tell me about personality theory and how do we develop them? The other day I called my step daughter on her rude behavior towards me and my child. This is what she said: I can't help that I am like my mom and my personality is generally crabby and that I am generally in a bad mood most of the time. I am not buying it. I think it is pure BS. She can be nice when she wants something or when she wants to be. I've seen it. She tells me to shut up all the time and one day I was working out and she made me feel bad and told me I wasn't working out fast enough. How would you feel if you were trying your best? What would you say to her? I told her I know how to work out and I don't need any advice on how to workout and that at least I was doing it and trying my best. I haven't used that video since because I feel bad. Then she made the comment that she was only trying to help. Only trying to help my ass. She was being rude and she knew it. Her dad made her stop playing video games just so I could work out and she was pissed and she wanted to take it out on innocent me who did nothing wrong. I still say she just says she's like her mother is an excuse for her rude behavior. I believe you can choose to say something nice or say something rude. You can choose to say please be quiet I have a headache or shut up. You can choose to say turn that down it's bothering me versus shut that crap off. I say she is just trying to excuse her rude behaviors and there's no excuse for them! Please help me understand!?

I think we all have personality disorders to a degree. We tend to blame our actions and reactions on our personalities, but we can manage or behavior with effort and awareness. Bottom line is that you can't change other people, only yourself. It's a waste of energy and time. Just work on how you react to her rude behavior. She does it to get to you and the more you show her that it bothers you, the more she will do it. It's called human nature. We all seek attention in one way, shape or form. We tend to want other people to change to satisfy our lifestyles, opinions, or peace of mind. Hope this helps and start ignoring your step daughter. She will grow up when she is ready. Meanwhile, be the example of having a good heart but don't take her shit either.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
