Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
"Bipolar Disorder is essentiallymajordepressive accompanied by manic and hypomanic episodes.Manic episodes are periods of distinctly elevated, expansive,or irritable moods that last at least one week.Hypomanic episodes consist of four days of mild to moderate elevation of mood, improved and positive thinking, and increased energy levels. There are also periods during which symptoms of mania or hypomania occur with symptoms of depression, which are called mixed episodes. If an individual meets the criteria for both a major depressive and a manic episode, they are considered to have Bipolar 1 disorder. If the criteria for both a major depressive episode and a hypomanic episode are met, they are diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder.........Because of the significant changes in mood experienced by people with Bipolar disorder, this diagnosis is often inappropriately made for people with Borderline disorder, which means they recieve incorrect and ineffective treatment."
