Personality Disorders Support Group
Personality disorders form a class of mental disorders that are characterized by long-lasting rigid patterns of thought and behaviour. Personality disorders are seen by the American Psychiatric Association as an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from the expectations of the culture of the individual who exhibits it.
Hoping to give us an opportunity for some positive sharing and reflection. Also, I'm just plain curious :)
I've been intrigued by many of the profile pics that our members have chosen (I am connected with other support groups, as most of you probably are as well...so much variation!) I haven't wanted to come right out and ask someone "what's up with the ------?" But I'm sure thinking it.
So, what's up with your avatars/profile pics? Why did you choose ------- to represent you (or at least, virtual DS you)? I'm also wondering about folks who just post their actual photos of themselves. I also wonder about those who frequently change their profiles...so many questions!
Thought this could be an interesting way to share about ourselves, since "self" and "identity" is something that many of us indeed struggle with.
Example #1. My profile pic had been a jellyfish and as i mentioned on the BP board this is because, though i might look harmless and perhaps even inviting/exotic from a distance, I can give a harsh sting if handled the wrong way...
Recently, though, I've changed to my "theme [mystical] animal" of 2013, which is a Phoenix. An obvious choice, perhaps, but I try, when i can, to connect to the sense of optimism, surviving death, coming back from ashes, exhilarating rebirth...need that right about now!!!

razor, your explanation reminds me of the difficulties AND strengths of having BPD. I mean, some of the strong emotions we have are actually very positive and kind...
I miss her, but having a picture that resembles her here on DS reminds me of someone who always made me happy and I loved unconditionally, which is more than I can say for most of the people in my life.
I do like to change my pic often at times many times during the day , I also have some OCD and can't really decide or commit or like it one day and hate it the next LOL.
I do like this pic tho and have had it for awhile now .
It seems nice and freeing , I love the water and wish I were there
I'm going to look up Calylla the red fox. that would be nice procrastination for me! i love your reason for choosing the tabby in honor of your beloved cat.
Well, some of you might have noticed that i changed mine a while ago. though I'm still aiming for the journey of the Phoenix (in my healthy brain), I am "losing it" in my current brain. indeed, if i weren't too lazy to look for another profile pic at present, I'd probably find a picture of someone melting or fading away, because that's what I feel like--at least when i'm not on here.
