I'm attending college full-time right now. Amazing accomplishment for me...HUGE!! The only reason it's working is that I qualify for Accessibility Services (private distraction free room for test taking, extra time on assignments, more forgiveness in regard to attendance etc.). Every University in the US is required to provide accommodations for disabled students. Anyhow, The first time I met with my case worker on campus, he gave me my 'letters'. Letters are basically a sealed envelope with a note explaining to my professors that I am an AS student and that I require certain accommodations. It doesn't say anywhere in the 'letter' why I qualify, it just says that I do. In that first meeting, he advised the following: "A little word of advice, when you give these letters to your professors and they happen ask any questions that you are not comfortable answering, just tell them to call me." (Even then, my professors still are not told I am Borderline) "If you do feel like being more open with some professors, that's fine...whatever you do though, don't tell them you have BPD. That usually freaks teachers out and they'll treat you differently. All most people know about BPD is that 'that one kid that killed all his class-mates had BPD' or 'didn't that one serial killer have BPD'. Just tell them you are depressed or something so they aren't afraid of you."

FABULOUS way to start my college education. SERIOUSLY!!

Side-note: I cut last night. I haven't cut in almost 3 years. Weird eh?

I'm lucky...most of the people I work with...and family members...have NO idea what the heck Borderline Personality Disorder IS!!! But that does mean that I hold a lot more in...so I don't have to explain anything.

But...yeah, since my diagnosis...well...yeah. Nothing's really changed much since. Sometimes I'm happier...sometimes I'm more hopeless.

It doesn't help either that the titles of all the books written on BPD make it sound so dramatic...

Amiko there is one named BPD Demistifed(pardon spelling) so there is one out there that doesn't sound that bad.

I have no idea where the stigma came from. I was just diagnosed with it a month and a half ago after existing the hospital for a nearly complete suicidal attempt. I had always heard of it before, but had heard of Borderline. I always thought it was like Split Personality Disorder or something. So...I don't have enough experience to know.

That wouldn't go over too "well"...lol...Not very romantic, not that i'll ever get in a relationship.....Too hard..

I'd now never let anyone that I want to understand me better read I HATE YOU don't leave me. tyhat leave souch a negtive veiw on borderlines. I wish I could burn them all. That was the first book I read on it and than goodness I didn't let it get me down and not try to fight my illness. The others I read are much better sans the titales.

I know I'm diffcult before and now. I have a hard time relating to people for I'm a very dark person. I have a skewed sense of humer to keep it light but oftem my mind goes dark places. I guess that happenes from being abused. But for the most part most people don't understand me.
