LIe detector test

We are trying to get my father in law to take a lie detector test about molesting my daughter. He said they are not reliable and he does not want to get a false positive and he knows and God knows he didn't do it. I take it as an admission of guilt. If he were so innocent why wouldn't he take it?? Has anyone had any luck getting a pedophile to take a test??? If so any advise? Do they ever just admit it and apolgize???

I took my father for a lie detector test and he passed...this was after my 2 nieces accused him...I was pregnant with my daughter who is turning 14...she just told me last week that my father abused her...I don't think I will ever forgive myself for not believing them...lie detector tests don't work ..if your daughter is telling you this happened then take her word and get her therapy...these sick individuals that do these things will lie and pass lie detector tests because they are sick and believe they are not doing anything wrong

Sadnstrong2, same thing here. The det said they can pass it if they believe their lies. Our abuser did. Case closed and now my daughter was made to feel like a liar because those that are to help my kids, didn't :(

Most abusers never admit the truth - they truly believe they did nothing wrong. We were extremely lucky that I caught my ex at a weak moment while he was on the run. We had to go into a safe house because he took off and the police wanted us protected. He finally called me hysterical and asked what he should do. I told him to go turn himself in, tell the truth and save us all the destruction of a long, hard trial. And he did (after stopping by and giving all of our bank cards to someone else so they could drain the accounts for him). He retracted his statement the next day and used our entire savings that he had stolen while we were still in the safe house to pay his half million dollar bail and on a high powered defense attorney. In the end, he took a plea because the prosecutor was adamant about going for a life sentence if he didn't.

He later told me during a "face the perpetrator" meeting that "he didn't want to cheat on me" - obviously, our daughter was obsolutely nothing to him, and so none of that horror counted. Their minds are so sick that they truly believe the twisted crap in their own minds. I would not want to risk a lie detector.
