Parents Whose children have been sexually abused Community Group
This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !
Has she been assessed by a Psychiatrist? Not a psychologist or therapist.
Also, does she have an interest in art at all? Maybe you can fine tune therapy into the direction she is interested in. Art therapy is a wonderful resource.
There is a Mental Health Rock Music camp here and my daughter and her friend are set to go next month. Maybe there is something like that near you?
I do want to point out that my daughter is also on Prozac and yes, there are side effects on the reports but I haven't seen any in her. Our doctor was very upfront about the actual scientific info. Suidical thoughts are reported but kids who take prozac versus kids who are depressed and dont take meds have less completed suicide attempts.
I think one of the biggest hurdles we face is the powerlessness of it all. I want to make my daughter happy. And I used to try to do that until I realized how exhausted I was and also how tiring it was for her to fake happy all the time. No one is happy all the time. You being there for your daughter is enough right now. She also needs to do the work too. Sometimes it is hard to detach a bit, but in the long run we need to. People need to learn to cope their own way. I am not saying cut her out, but give her a chance to learn to deal with life. Guide her yes, but allow her to grieve too. We are all grieving for the lives we thought we were given to our child.
Be there for your daughter. You are obviously a caring parent. Get help for you too. That was a big thing I learned. I was pushing therapy on and on for my daughter until she said one day, I just want to stop having to talk about it, I just want to breathe and move on a bit.
Take care of you and her,
jazz
