This group is for parents whose children have been sexually abused. We welcome both Mothers and Fathers. Here, we can offer support to one another. We can vent, cry and lift each other up. No condemning or criticizing allowed. We are here for support. We LOVE (((HUGS))) !

Anybody else have trouble with the holidays?

What a question, Huh? I know all of you probably do. For us this whole ordeal seams to be magnified at the holidays as my son came forward on Thanksgiving several years ago. With Thanksgiving being a prelude to the rest of the holidays for the remainder of the year I just dread it. Being estranged from my side of the family has made it even more difficult as this was the side we celebrated everything together. After 3 years we're still trying to fine tune our new family traditions, but in all honesty I'd like to just pack us up and vacation somewhere.

I guess we're all in this together. Hugs to everyone. Brokensun, your kids will remember this holiday being special. Our holidays are different to say the least, but my children look forward to our new traditions each year. I find great comfort here knowing others know how I feel.

It's been just over a year since this nightmare started, but last Thanksgiving and Christmas I think we were all kind of numb and trying to make the best of it for each other. This year, our feelings are more raw and edgy, and we've lost a couple very close friends--we found out one of them witnessed the abuse and never told us. When we confronted them, the answer was that it looked consensual and so was none of our business. Our son was 16 and the perp was almost 24. We obviously had a gargantuan lapse in judgment when we thought these people were truly our friends. We're estranged from our church because they go there too.

Some of my family have chosen not to spend it with us, even though the abuse was disclosed, his twin just finished with chemo for lymphoma, and my kids are the only grandchildren who really want their grandparents here. But my brother went to the "trouble" to get them Grand Ole Opry tickets, so 2 people who really shouldn't be on the road are driving almost half a continent away. Aren't those tickets highly sought after??? Whatever.

Christmas with Mickey sounds awesome, Brokenson, and I hope you and your kids have a blast! Maybe each year you can pick something new to experience for your new tradition that you share together--it doesn't have to be expensive each year! Fairystepmom, that was some poem--cuts right to the roots of this mess! Very cathartic. I know I'm new--I'm so anxious right now I can't get myself to spill my whole story yet--something might be in the works and I can't take a chance on blowing it just in case there's a "creep"er among us--but from reading so many of your posts I feel like you're all so giving and wise, so I hope and pray you can overcome or avoid the holiday doldrums that can plague even the most unencumbered person, and I truly wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving!
