A group that tries to share with each other how they deal with being a good supporting parent of a prisoner and the unique problems that arise. What to share or not, how to deal with spouse of prisoner, ex-spouse of, children of prisoner which we may not see either anymore,so forth

my 30 year old son who has never been in trouble made a huge mistake and is now on the way to prison for 6 years. There is an unbearable pain in my heart that I can not get over. I do not see the pain letting up anywhere in the near future. Constant memories and crying. Can't bear to open my eyes in the morning and realize this is not a nightmare. I also have fears of something happening because he is so naive and kind. I have another child that is 28 who also has a 9 month old daughter that I should be strong for but I just can't snap out of this. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

also, does anyone know his approximate release date if he received 2 counts of 3 years to run consecutive. Total = 6 years.

Hi love. The pain is unbearable in the beginning. My son has been in prison for one year now. He was a little 19 year old blue eyed baby when he went in. I was worried sick. He is doing fine- your son will be ok. Don’t fill your head with what can go wrong. Instead- what could go right ?
We can’t always find purpose when things are so dark, painful and heavy. My son has been given an opportunity to THINK, reflect, read, take classes while in there, and decide HE wants a different life. He is learning the hard way BUT- he is ok. He is safe. He is positive. He is growing and there is ALWAYS hope. Every state is different on their sentencing. What state are you guys in?

Hey girl. When it happened to us, I was CONSUMED. I couldn’t stop blaming myself. But I promise you, it will get better. I am still fighting for her to see her children. We moved to Wa state so we could make sure her kids see her and the prison is denying. It is hard fighting buorcracy. They are holding all of the cards. But it’s been two years and I am starting to come out of the fog I’ve been in. It’s taken me this long to wrap my head around the whole thing. Amanda says it best. I am trying to love myself again, I am loving my daughter the best I can and raising her kids the best we can. That is really all we can do. I do feel your pain, I really do. I made myself a place in the house that is mine. I go in there with my zen oils and my TV, phone and find peace. You will find yours. I pray for you.

Thank you Kathieray. Its only been a couple weeks and I just can't get over this. I can't imagine feeling this way for the next 6 years of my life. Thank you and Amandamarie for taking the time to give me advice.
