It's been 9 years since my son has spoken to me. He was 12 when his father and I divorced. It was a very difficult divorce. He was brainwashed by his father to believe I was a horrible person. Mother's Day is difficult. It has been for many years. The last 2 years his dad has a new woman in his life and today as I was cyber stalking I saw pictures of them and his beautiful terms of endearment for his "mom" it crushed me into pieces!!!! Today's been difficult need less to say... Need some words of encouragement ♥️
I worry that those of us who have lost a loved one share one common trait. We seem to be refusing or unable to own up to our part. For my part, I'd love to own up to my own faults, I just have no idea what my daughter is upset about. We all know we aren't perfect, but I have to suspect there is something about our personalities that our children find so off putting that they're happy to wash their hands of us.
I have some vague idea that I am probably blunt and plain spoke but that's a trait we both share and I honestly never considered that she might object to that. We were best friends at one time and right up until she cut me off, we were on good terms, never really fought and my husband and were planning to relocate to be closer to her.
The bottom line is I must have been negligent in my parenting in some way to have raised a daughter who would just kick me unceremoniously to the curb without so much as howdy-do. I feel very deeply that this is my fault somehow.
Message for Victoryrose44: Shame on your saying not all our children are worth our love. You know deep down inside that isn't true. Everyone deserves to be loved, even adult children who probably don't realize how much withholding their love and company hurts us. Please don't let your bitterness about this situation change you into someone that's difficult to love.
Love for a parent is NOT unconditional. Love for ANYONE is not unconditional. Would you ask a child who was beaten, starved, abused, etc., by a parent to love that person, just because of shared blood? That is a dangerous slope to risk sliding on.
