Any treats he likes? My dr said m&m's often work. Just a thought.

Have you tried a potty seat? Instead of the little potty. And have you tried cold turkey into big boy pants? Thats what we did with my daughter and she was pretty much day trained inside a week. Of course the first three days were messy to the max!! But we made a big deal of throwing out her diapers and bought cool panties.

If he tells you when he's going to go he's almost trained (yay for you! my 3 year old is not at that stage yet). Maybe try buying an interesting potty - there are those that make sounds (although I take the sound part out), and those that look like a truck ... Other than that we try some pleasant activity when on potty like play a video or read a book.

If he's refusing to go, it might not be the best time to train him. He's 2.5, so there's still plenty of time to train. If he's resisting that much, there's probably nothing you can do but give up for now and wait until he's ready. Also, it's very common for children who are potty trained to become "un" trained when a new baby comes home. I can imagine that having 3 new babies come home might just exacerbate that. IDK, if it were me I'd rather change diapers for a few more months than get him trained, only to have to start over from day 1. If there's 1 thing I've learned from potty training my son, it's that you can not force a child to potty train if they don't want to and you don't want him to have negative associations to it or he'll never be ready.

I did try big boy pants, but he just went in his underwear and the last few times I tried again he refused to put them on so I didn't want to push it too much. Maybe I'll wait and try again.

I'm sorry JmeP. I know how strong the desire is to train before the baby(ies) comes. Good luck in a few months. You're going to have your hands full with triplets, I wouldn't want to add cleaning pee and poop off the floor to that. :(

My daughter potty trained completely (day, night and no accidents) at 14 months. I never "trained" her she just hated diapers. We tried potty training my son last summer. He could care-less. Then one day (before he turned 3 but a bit older than 2 1/2) my daughter (now 20) bought Beck a little seat that went on the potty. It's covered with Elmo and Cookie Monster. Beck loved the seat so much he started using it all the time. He never had an accident. He is now 3 still hasn't had an accident. Neither of my kids would have trained a second before they wanted to. I know many people say their child is trained but they tell them every 15-30 to go to the bathroom--that is not potty trained to me. I cannot imagine taking care of triplets and a preschooler so I really wish you the best. I would think it might be easier to just change your son then to constantly have to clean up accidents. I promise your son will not go to college in diapers!!

Try taking him into bathroom with you and show him how it all works. My daughter really took to going on the big potty after watching me do it all the time. I would bring her with me every time I had to go. It works especially well when your child is going through an independent stage.

My daughter did the same thing!!!! Then I thought lets get some books and movies about going potty on the potty. We went to the library and got books and some movies about using the potty and being a big girl. I also explained to her why people go potty. I told her that when her body tells her that she needs to go, when she gets that feeling to get to the bathroom fast and get on the big girl potty and go. She did just that!! :-D Now she is in underwear all day, just not at night time yet. We are still working on that. :-D Good Luck!!!
