also nuby has a soft tips one, really cheap too. but seems like the liquid comes out alittle faster.
Kala cups have a special valve inside the spout that I have not been able to find anywhere else. The valve is a large part of its magic- it is specifically designed to let a child choose the flow and will stop immediately when a child stops sucking.
The problem with most soft spouts is that they bend easily and will still let out fluids, even when your child stops drinking. That leads to spluttering and choking, which can put a child off of transitioning.
My daughter (who had huge problems transitioning) took to kala's cup within seconds of it being handed to her. She liked it so much better that she was refusing bottles and wanted her sippy cup instead. Over the past year, I have seen what a godsend it really is. The cups have been brutalized, thrown across rooms, stood on, and they are still in perfect form. I've only just had to replace the spouts (sold for about $9 for a three pack). That's with a very bad teether- and she will put her full jaw strength into chewing on the spouts. They are very robust!
They also clean up sooooo easily. Most sippy cups I have tried will start to smell within the first week of use- regardless of how many times I boiled or sterilized them. Kala's won't. Sorry to rant on about it, but I had failure after failure with EVERY brand on the shelves. I have about $300 worth of old sippy cups sitting in storage that will never get used! lol.
DD loves their bright colors.
You can also interchange the lids and the spouts for some pretty cool color combinations. Oh yeah, the spouts also fit onto soda and water bottles. I always keep a spare in my purse when I'm out- DH has a habit of forgetting to pack a drink for the little one.
You can also use Kala's after your child is weaned off of sippy cups. Take the lid off and you have a regular cup. That's something you can't do with other sippy cups. You really get your money's worth out of them. :o)
