2 yr old with asthma

Just wondering if anyone if dealing with this. Our little one has a nebulizer and is now screaming and fighting his way through treatments. We are exhausted right now, I don't know what to do to get him to calm down and relax! He used to do it with no problem, and now that he is on Prednisone, he is terrible!!!

My now 4 1/2 year old was diagnosed with asthma early on as well so I totally feel your pain. We use a nebulizer, inhalers w/ a spacer, and have had steroids as well when it has gotten out of control. We have always tried to do the treatments when he is sleeping/napping, but when awake we always found that when we let him "help" things went much easier :)

My fiance's son has been using the nebulizer off and on since he was about 4months and was just recently diagnosed pre-asthmatic in June 2008.

We've always got him to help and it seems to help alot cause he loves to be helpful. Also with the inhaler and spacer we count which he's liking to do more and more now.

Do you think it could be a side effect of the prednisone? Steroids like that can cause more aggression, make you want to fight, give you more energy (where you can't sit down) etc. Those side effects can get better as his body gets used to the medication.

I think getting him to help is a great idea. Can you distract him with a favorite movie or something too?

We have tried the movies and toys. I am beginning to wonder if an inhaler and spacer would be less traumatic for him. I have tried letting him play with the mask and nebulizer hoping he wouldn't be so scared. I do think the prednisone is making him more upset than usual.

    Is anyone here allergic to Sulfa that is currently taking Diamox? I have been diagnosed with IH now for almost 2 years. I am allergic to Sulfa drugs meaning that my throat will swell up so my Neurologist put me on Topamax. I was suffering from major loud whoosing noises and the topamax helped that but everyday I still hear those mainly between 6 - 12 pm. I am at my wits end and have not went...
