I mean I guess to some extent if it is not hurting anyone, why bother, confrontation with parents almost seems inevitable with girls, but I guess I think I would let her know I am not a fan of the trend myself, but that so long as she is open about what is going on in her life she could dress how she choose.
If she feels she has to hide everything from you you may find you do not get the info that can flag a problem before it gets out of hand...
Just my opinion, I guess it really depends on how this group operates, the goth kids around here just sit around wearing black and talking about sad stuff, and trying very hard to be different. As if being a part of a trend makes you different. I kind of think they are just looking to shock there poor grandparents.
If these kids are actually DOING something dangerous I guess I would have to get creative in trying to keep my kid away, but I think these kids are just talking, curious...
My mom only once forbade me from hanging out with someone and honestly, that girl was the one person I wanted to hang out with from there on in. On the other hand I dressed like a gangster for a bit and got bored of it without ever hearing anything but laughter from my mom (in all fairness I weighted all of 95 lbs in high school I was not scaring anyone).
Then again I was much older when these issues came up, so I guess the reaction may have just been a teenage girl thing.
Keep the communication line open! And if you feel strongly about this which you seem too, I'd really talk to the hubby until he realizes what you mean..he may even have to wait and see her behavior changes before he realizes.
