I got married 2 months ago and I went from being really busy planning a wedding to feeling lost cause I have nothing to do. On top of feeling depressed right after the wedding we were told We need to find a new place to live. We decided to buy a fixer upper so we are going to have a lot of work. when the work starts I'm hoping it will lift my mood. But all of this is very stressful.
Anyway last week my husband and I got into a simple disagreement and I lost it. I have a hard time when people are upset with me sometimes I handle it better than others. That night I didn't handle it well at all.
I tried to catch it before it turned into a panic atteck but that didnt work. it ended up turning into a panic attack and I started to get the fight of flight feeling. I tried to leave the room so I could try and calm down but he doesn't like me to go away upset. So then I started to feel trapped. My panic kept increasing and the only way to get it out was to fight. So I hurt myself. I banged my head against the wall and scratched myself. At that point all I could think of was ways to make my body feel something so my mind would stop racing. All these crazy thoughts went through my head.
I eventually went to bed but the panic started again the following day. All I wanted was to feel like my husband wasn't upset with me but I just kept making it worse. I don't blame him I am probably more upset that igot that bad and embarrassed.
Now almost a week later he has been really sweet and trying to help me get out of the house and feel better. I just still feel like he is upset with me and this will all repeat again. I just don't feel like anything is better. I just decided to play happy cause that's what people expect but I'm not happy. I'm hurting and angry I can't talk to anyone because no one understands what panic feels like. It's easy for people to think you should just get over it.
I'm scared my not letting people know how I'm feeling will make things worse. I just don't know what to do or where to turn.
I hope this made scense even if my trigger sounds crazy panic is panic right?

89FToday it is again another hot day but cooler then yesterday. Since this is August it is to be expected in my neck of the woods. All the grass is yellow and flowers are starting to go to seed. I need to water my garden but this time of the year I'm so over it, which is weird because all my plants have their fruit or veggies.Sandra, this time of year reminds me of your Dad and his toms. We'd...

Don't be ashamed of what is happening to you and be open and honest with your doctor. You will not end up in a psychiatric ward, but put on the correct medications. There are also good medications for panic disorders and many good programs out there to help control panic attacks.
There is something (like most of us) hurting you deep inside and your mind isn't quite ready to let go of what the problem is, so it's important you seek out psychiatric help for your problems. Everyone has a fear or a compulsion of sorts (however small they may be) and some of them we can handle and others we can't.
Good Luck

You've got married and now your focussing on a new home, 2 very stressful events! Dont be so hard on yourself!
You wrote, "My panic kept increasing and the only way to get it out was to fight" - in my experience, there are other ways to release the adrenaline which causes the horrible fight-or-flight sensations, and you don't have to hurt yourself to rid yourself of these feelings -
I have found that going out and taking a walk helps release the adrenaline, and a walk is also very calming - it sounds crazy, but if is too late to take a walk, maybe even do some aerobic exercise, or run in place - anything to get the body to release the adrenaline. It's best to break this head-banging habit now, especially if you ever have kids - my mother, who most likely had a panic disorder without letting anyone know, used to bang her head against the wall a lot, and it terrified me as a child -
Your husband sounds like he is open to hearing about your anxiety and panic - it's better to tell him about it now, rather than to wait while "playing happy" - it sounds like you're afraid that your relationship will crumble if you let yourself be yourself, even with your panic disorder - but a good relationship will be able to contain the flaws of both individuals -
I've been married for 35 years, and I have had panic disorder as a child and then again after my son was born, when I was 28 - so most of my married life was spent as a person with a severe panic disorder - and yet I am still married, and I feel i have a good marriage - so please don't let fear of a break-up because of your panic feelings cause you to add to your anxiety -
