what is the best medicine to take as needed when you can feel a panic attack coming on? I realize everyone is different but I would like to see what other ppl have tried or techniques that have worked. Anything to stop these panic attacks from coming on would be a literal life safer! Thanks!

I take Ativan (not sure how to spell it) when needed. I usually get "symptoms" of panic attacks so I usually have about a 2 minute window to take action. I also carry around aroma therapy rollers, I have a eucalyptus and spearmint one and I roll the fragrance onto my wrists and do breathing exercises. I haven't come across a way to actually stop them.. Just to get through them a lot easier and not go into a full blown panic attack.

I used xanax for years and its fast acting. Give it a good 10 minutes and its already working. Now I have klonopins which are a longer lasting med and they dont act immediately. Both work well for panic attacks. And I get level 10+ attacks.

Went to the doctor today and they gave me Valium to take as needed. I haven't taken it yet. Sound silly but I'm terrified of taking meds. The doctor feels like my panic attacks and anxiety issues are stemming from a possible heart problem. She did a EKG and CXR and said my heart is enlarged and she is sending me for a echocardiogram soon. Mean while she gave me carafate for the stomach issues before and after the attacks and Valium for if I feel one coming on. Rite now I'm mainly just fighting them off all day long which y'all know is exhausting. I'll come close An get it fought off and in no time I'm doing it all over again. I had to miss work and I've become scared to be alone or drive alone in fear of a panic attack by my self. I'm 28 years old I feel like everything is a mess rite now. Thank y'all for the advise! I guess I'll be a big girl as try the Valium my next attack even tho I'm terrified. I'm afraid it will make me dizzy or nauseated. Them are my 2 worse fears, no clue why I'm so scared.

I take a half of a .5 Valium to help me sleep ...it simply helps me relax.. I don't use it every night though. Whenever I wake up with panic I take a Xanax ( This I only take if I have not taken a Valium) . You'll be ok

Thank you so much! They gave me 5mg Valium and told me to talk half. Like I said I'm terrified of pills for some dumb reason so I took 1/4 and it seemed like it kinda make me feel funny for a little bit An then it calmed me some. It didn't take it away but it kept me from going into full blown panic. The stomach issues that goes on with this panic and anxiety is a nightmare. Carafate and zofran help some
