A panic attack is a period of intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting no more than thirty minutes. Symptoms include trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, hyperventilation, and sensations of choking or smothering. so I quite literally found this site five minutes ago, and I have to post.
I started having panic attacks at about 11, and I really struggled with being able to swallow, to the point where I could no longer eat because I was terrified to try and swallow (sounds crazy right), this lead to me being hospitalised because of my weight, and I became a major hypochondriac.
12 years on and I’m doing okay, I left all that behind me, and can have the odd panic attack here and there.
However tonight I’ve had the worst panic attack I’ve had in years.
it started with an unbearable sharp head ache in one side of my head, which of course to me meant I was having a brain hemorrage, but that’s just the hypochondriac talking.
This has spurred on a dreadful attack which has left me feeling like I should be hospitalised. I can’t breathe, I feel like I’m going to block it, I can’t swallow, my chest is tight, my heart is racing, im burning up but violently shivering. By my partner doesn’t understand he thinks I’m crazy and makes it worse by not sympathising with how I’m feeling.
I’ve been trying to calm down, and as I almost reach a point of controlling my breathe again, I will get like real quick “doom” feeling is the only way I can describe , it’s like a rush of feeling everything at once and I quite literally threw myself on the floor in a state. Does anyone else get this?
Any tips on how to calm down? Writing this has massively helped, but I don’t want to be on my phone as I feel that’s what’s triggerd my headache initially.
I sound so whingey but just need someone to talk or relate too
