Ladies, I know I'm not supposed to be making a comment on this as I have the wrong sort of equipment to offer anything useful, however I was hoping to get some or all of you interested in not only comparing notes but also polling other women on this and other groups that you might belong to who have pancreatitis and see if this is as universal as it is surely sounding! I also think since many if not all of you are being dismissed by your doctor's for mentioning this problem that perhaps you all can come up with an official type of census sort of thing, Diane knows what I'm trying to say she just doesn't realize it yet!!!! hee hee hee, Diane help I'm drowning!! I think it would be well worth all of your efforts to get an official type of presentation that can be presented to some doctor at say the mayo clinic, or whichever doctor and institution you all can work up so that with some help from these "official" folks the word can be sent forth for doctors to ask this question when a woman presents with all the pancreatitis symptoms and the extra owie involved with that time of the month, whew ok I've sweated long enough doin this, just sayin, Troy

We are not insane! I started tracking my pains and they get worse near and on my period. I was a day or two into my period the very first time I was diagnosed and had to spend a week in the hospital. I've told doctors that there seems to be a link and they all said no so I started searching the internet and found this:

I agree there must be some kind of link. I have been on birth control for 10 years to stop my periods because of the pain, and headaches I would get. This was working great until my pancreas problems started, they started in Sept 2011 and since Feb 2012 I get a period now even on the birth control and it is slowly getting worse. I talked to my surgeon and when she took my appendix out in June she explored and found no issues with what she refers to as my girly parts. Lol. She can't explain why all the sudden my birth control is not working, so I might need to change it, but scared to try a different one in case it causes a flare up. Any ideas on how to stop the bleeding? It is driving me nuts, three days now and I am iron deficient and anemic and I am still having an acute attack. Don't want to go to the hospital with my period it is so embarrasing even though I have talked to my surgeon about it. But I agree with Troy about getting together and figuring this out!

Hi Buzzi good to see you back in here again:) As far as stopping the bleeding...if you wont be having any children.....I had the thermalablation done where they burn the inside of your uterus with a rod under twilight sedation and then the uterus closes up....i had that done about 10 years ago and had such problems with the bleeding....now....I have no bleeding at all...I still feel the hormonal issues each month as well as my pancreatitis being worst at that time but thats it. It makes sense that pancreas issues would be worst during this time since we get bloated and retain fluid which prob aggravates the pancreas more. But i agree with Troy that we should get the word out about this issue, but seriously Troy repeating it like 10x to make sure we heard you a lil bit too much dude;p hehehehe fof i kill myself lol (sounds familiar?)

That's a good idea Diane but I would like to keep the option of having kids open since I am only 30, but this idea scares me too! I heard people with cp can get really sick when pregnant, so I don't know if it is even an option. Just wish there was a temporary fix so I don't bleed without having to change my birth control. Troy don't worry even if you have lost your marbles we still love you! LOL. But we really should get all the ladies together and figure this out. Sorry I have been missing been going through a tough time, but I am back for now.

I saw my GI today for a follow up. I am in the middle of an attack that started Saturday. The pain is better managed than my lasat attack (I heart Levbid !) but this time I am having anxiety symptoms--high heart rate and palpitations, cold sweats, feeling that my skin is crawling. I also have that constant bile taste in my mouth, nausea, 1 episode of vomitting and diahrrea. The symptoms escalated until Wednesday when.....drum roll......I started my menstrual cycle. Now they are slowly resolving. I talked to my GI about it (praying the whole time that he doesnt think I'm a nut job) and he says that GI issues and endocrine functions/hormones/menstrual cycles are absolutely related. He ordered a fasting lipid panel (my tryglycerides are high but havent been tested since my CP symptoms started) and is researching an anti-depressant that I can tolerate. He said it will quiet the parasympathetic nerve response. I said 'Do you mean vagus nerve?' and he said 'That's part of it. You've been doing your homework.' I wanted to jump up and hug him but I was afraid that would convince him that I really AM a head case.

Have you been check for autoimmune? There is a connection with other autoimmune disorders causing flare ups with your pancreatitis
It may also be what you are eating ( sweets , fried foods, etc) that can be doing.
What is your diet like?
How much fat in a day do you eat?
Do you cook in oil?

Hi! I eat under 20 grams of fat per day in my diet since my ERCP last August. I probably eat too much sugar--the foods that help my tummy tend to be high carb. I am learning through this process that this disease is very complicated and multi-faceted. Trying to take things one day at a time.

In an effort to stop my cycles and avoid the rollercoaster GI symptoms, my doc gave me a depo shot today. It is all progesterone so it shouldn't flare anything up. I will let u all know in a few weeks if it helped.

This just in...my wife has received a Lupron shot recently, and in 2 weeks our life has changed dramatically. If you feel that it correlates with menstruation or ovulation. Consider getting this 3 month shot, and remain off birth control or hormones to help the side effects. My wife has been pain free for 2 weeks when she hasn't had more than 3 in a row in 3 yrs...
