Enzymes-not working?

So I was on creon for months, went off for a fat test and had the most normal bm ever for 2 wks while being OFF creon. Then after 2 wks issues with D and soft bowel. So on them again for a month, and my bm has only been normal 3 days out of a full month-where the other days its either constant D, or very mushy.

Shouldnt creon be helping with this? I am on the appropraite dosage, and have even doubled up-does not work.

BTW my elastaste is totally normal, above 500 so I wouldnt think my BM would be such an issue, especially would think creon would get it under control.

Still not 100% dx, but after my colonoscopy next wk this will have ruled everything else out. Again, have slow gallbladder too but zero stones.

Hugs to you. But you know I didn't have stones for my gallbladder problem....it actually was very sluggish and not working right so that is why they took it out, which resolved the one painful problem on my right side. Be careful of too much panky enzymes which can cause gout if you really don't need them...one of the bad side effects. I hope you get answers one day....it helps when you have answers to why things are going on with yourself.

Creon helps if you have pancreas insufficiency......and if you don't I do not think it is something you should be on cause like I said will cause gout which is very painful.

Thanks Diane. Thinking I have two things going on at this point. I figured if my bowels were this upset from insufficiency my elastaste would be off which it wasnt, was above 500 actually. Im going to follow through with SIBO testing, the bowels did start off bad two yrs ago after the birth of my daugher-I was on IV antiobiotics for 24 hrs and Im thinking that could of led to SIBO.

Fingers crossed...

oh good Sesser......I noticed when I increase it with certain meals it helps a lil more as well....I have so many different doses that I am never sure how much I should take....I just fear that if I take too much it will raise my triglyceride levels even more and that would def start an acute attack :/ I hope you keep up the good work Sesser!

I am having the same issues now . I was doing good on it but recently had a attack and now I am having issues with BMs again . I asked my doctor if I should up my Creon and he said he wasn't really sure if I kept having them then give it a try . My lipase was low when he checked it last time amylase was just at normal range . They arent sure what is all going on with my pancreas . How much creon do you take a day ?

Im on 24000 and take up to 5 with meals (depeding if the meal is large, how much fat). On average however I take 2 to 3 with meals, 1 to 2 with snacks and take it with everything. What Im noticing now is when I have BM issues its usually from pushing it by having too much fat too many days in a row, so likely a flare happening. Im going through it right now actually.

Have you been dx with CP yet? It took me 5 years

I was having lots of BM issues every time I ate even the smallest amount of fat, my dr increased my enzymes 25000 to 5 with every meal it helped a little, but what really helped me was finding out I had CVID. I now get IVIG once a month and it has helped me a lot. It helped my pancreas, because I am not getting as many infections..

May not be what is going on with anyone else here, but it sure helped me.

CVID is an auto immune disease where you body doesn't make enough antibodies..I go once a month & get human antibodies...But it sure has helped especially when it comes to what I can eat & infections and running to the bathroom. I couldn't leave the house I had to know where every bathroom was, just to go to my doctors appts..

Interesting, does is cause CP? Any other symptoms? I have multiple issues going on cant help but think its all connected

Don't really know, I also have a blood disorder where my body doesn't get rid of iron, so they aren't sure if it was caused from that or CVID. I do know another person with CVID with CP..
