Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) Support Group
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) an ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile, and defiant behavior toward authority figures that goes beyond the bounds of normal childhood behavior. When a child cannot seem to control his anger or frustration, even over what seems to be trivial or simple to others, the child will often react in violent or negative ways to his own...

I just found this group and I'm not even sure my daughter has ODD. She has not been diagnosed but from what I've read, a lot of it sounds like my daughter. I am going to make an appt. for a behavioral counselor tomorrow.
Anyway, my daughter is 8. We had terrible twos until about 3 1/2. She had a speech delay but once she was able to express herself, her behavior got much better until the middle of Kindergarten. She had a problem with a little boy on the bus (inappropriate touching) and then her behavior started up. She did have counseling for that and she seemed to be better. She's had some more behavior problems over the last couple of years but it has gotten worse this school year. She's fine at school but she is mean to me. She is sensitive but stubborn. Sometimes she'll be fine, other times she flies off the handle. I have to tell her several times to do things and sometimes she gets mad.
One day, a few months ago, she was playing outside with her friends. We live in an apt. complex and there are tons of kids around. Anyway, she came in to go to the bathroom and it was close to dinnertime so I told her she needed to stay inside. She went into a rage. She started yelling at me about having to stay in and we yelled at each other for like 15 minutes before I could get her to go to her room.
She blames me for things or she says that I want bad things to happen to her. Not all the time but an example would be that she was grounded for a week one time. We were coming home from the bus stop and she wanted to play outside and I told her no because she was in trouble. She got mad and said I didn't want her to get exercise.
Her attitude was so bad around her birthday that she didn't get a birthday party. Well, we had dinner with my parents and my sister like we do every Sunday. She did have presents but that was a mistake. My parents got her a scooter and pads for her knees and elbows. Well they had the scooter hidden while she opened up the rest of her presents. When she got to the pads, we told her they were for her bike. My dad went to get the scooter and while he was gone, she started crying and throwing a fit because she wanted more than her scooter. I was embarrassed and felt horrible. My parents were really hurt.
She throws a fit almost over everything; too many fits for an 8 year old. Some days she's so emotional, I ask her if she's starting her period!
Anyway, sorry to make this so long but I wanted some advice while I wait for an appt. This isn't obviously everything but it gives you an idea.

This sounds so much like my situation! My 8 year old was diagnosed with ADHD a couple years ago, and we did have an initial screening by behavioral services, but their services (which included observing the child in her home environment) were only available until 5PM. Doesn't work very well for a working single mom, so I've been praying we can' work through it. We moved again since then, but I just purchased a house so hopefully there will be no moves EVER again! For my sanity just as much as hers - haha! Mine never really had the terrible 2s - it seems like she's having them now though. Temper tantrums, deliberately doing what I tell her not to do over and over again even though it results in either a spanking, loss of something special to her, etc. She's extremely smart and when she's herself, she's extremely sensitive and compassionate - but when she starts falling apart it just seems like there's no bringing her back until she hits rock bottom sometimes. She's also started bedwetting a lot, having "accidents" during the day - I'm really trying to get to a point where our house is fairly clutter-free and easy for her to keep picked up, but it's like I can't even get to a point where I can reward her for positive behavior anymore. I've gotten to a point where I have to walk with her from the car because it would take me an hour to get her into the house (literally). It will take her 45 minutes, even with my standing over her to pick up about 5 minutes worth of stuff. She doesn't have much left in her room anymore - it's all been confiscated because she refuses to listen or take care of her things. It seems like I've tried everything to this point. I asked my parents if perhaps she could stay there for a couple weeks this summer just to give both of us a break from each other and the response was "if she's behaving". Well, that was kind of the point, so guess not then. I've tried taking her to my church's "acoustic jam" nights - it's really only a few of us that get together and she gets to run around and play with the Priest's children, but then the rest of the weekend she's so difficult to deal with I probably won't be able to do that anymore and that's too bad, because that was really my only reprieve, and the only time I get out of the house. I'm going to try having her start writing in a journal - even though she's only 8, I'm going to try and get her to write even just a blurb in the mornings of what her "goal" is for the day, then write at night and see how things turned out. She's so sweet for most people but she steals from my mom, and from me. Nothing of value...I don't know where she got the idea that things are community property. I've tried hard to instill in her a desire to be respectful, and a desire to make the right choices and to try and take control of her emotions but visual aids haven't helped, positive or negative reinforcement hasn't helped, tightening up the reins/loosening up the reins - neither helped. *sigh*...
