Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
have OCD worry about the future. Practicing mindfulness has helped me.
Also knowing that I can handle life. I don't want anything difficult to happen. But I believe I can cope if it does. Keep your mind busy as much as you can
on what is happening right now today.
Other good OCD medications are Zoloft and Luvox (according to my psychiatrist). Are you seeing a psychiatrist? Going to therapy?
I have OCD, too. I know it's hard. Try your best to live in the moment. Just think about today. None of us knows what the future will be like. We can only hope for the best... and do our best.
Exercise helps with anxiety. Even taking walks outside helps a lot. Maybe try going outside more during the day. Be around nature, it is calming.
Best wishes.
I do see a therapist. There's a psychiatrist in the same location, but they scheduled me so many months out it was absurd. So I saw my family Dr who prescribed the Prozac. I don't know, sleep issues have been there for many years and probably made me the messed up person that got me into this situation.
Yes I definitely need to exercise more. It sucks because I used to a lot. Lift weights, run, bike, all sorts of things. Now I think I've done two workouts in the past 3 months. Have gone for a few walks, not enough though.
I'll continue to try. Living in the moment is so difficult though. Every time I sort of feel ok it's like my brain just has to remind me of all the things I OCD about.
So I have different thoughts. Self harm doesn't even bother me anymore. Just a sad reality of how my brain works. Regret is bad. Wanting to change things is painful. I feel like thoughts for the future are the worst. Like I can't concentrate on trying to mend things, I keep thinking it's all for nothing because the future is so bad nothing matters. I'd rather not say specifically the things that worry me. Maybe I'm going crazy on that but I feel like I'm right. I do hope it changes.
Even walking, every other day, can really help with anxiety, depression.... it also raises self esteem.
Recognize that the ruminating does not help. Imagine if you had a lawyer charging 350 per hour. He says I just spent 3 hours looking over your case realizing that I should have say, served interrogatories on issue A earlier. So what are we going to do the client asked, don't know right now, but you owe me a thousand dollars for worrying and ruminating.
Recognizing that the worrying is not productive is the first step. Playing in a Super Bowl, the coach usually structures the practices the same way as in the regular season, because added pressure does not help. Understanding that anxiety is not helping, that worrying does not make things better is the first step.
