Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Support Group
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder, more specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is manifested in a variety of forms, but is most commonly characterized by a subject's obsessive (repetitive, distressing, intrusive) thoughts and related compulsions (tasks or rituals) which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Hi I'm 30 years old and I've had a tramatic experience lately that has caused me to doubt myself and feel extremely guilty. It all started about a week ago and I was sleeping in my bed with my 1 year old daughter. When she woke up, she started to play with me like put her finger in my mouth and crawl around on the bed. I remember random inappropriate thoughts popping into my head, but I quickly shut them out. Anyway, I couple days went by and I was doing fine. Three days after all that happened, I started to feel really guilty like a did something awful to her. As I started analyzing what happened, I couldn't remember much, just the thoughts I had, then I started thinking that maybe the thought actually happened. All the sudden I started to get really anxious, my heart started pounding, my stomach started to get tight, and my whole body started to shake. I couldn't bare to think that I did something so horrific to my little girl. I started to get thoughts of suicide and I became very depressed. I really wanted to confess that I did something wrong, but there was no logic that suggested I did or could have ever done anything like that. It's been about a week now, and I still get obsessive thoughts that I can't seem to get out of my mind. It really helps when I talk to my wife, but wherever I'm alone or with my little girl, I just feel like a terrible person. I have an appointment to meet with a psychiatrist, but I really need some help now because I feel so hopeless. Does it sound like I have OCD or am I in denial?
