Just wondering if anyone here has tried any GOOD protein shakes or recipes lately? I've thought about doing Body By Vi or Shakeology but that stuff is so freakin expensive. (Then again anything healthy is expensive.) Also, have you had success actually losing weight with the protein shakes??
Thanks in advance...

I have been successful with Slimfast in the past, which is basically milk with added nutrients and flavorings. The Atkins shakes are the best ones I've tried of the regular ones. Most of them have a weird taste that doesn't seem bad at first until you try to swallow. Think Thin bars are like that for me. One thing that's cheap and high in protein that has worked for me is homemade protein shakes. I mix 2/3 cups nonfat milk powder with some nesquick. It amounts to about 16 grams of protein at about 50 cents a drink and only 175 calories. I went to a diet doc ages ago who suggested Slimfast twice a day and a low cal, healthy dinner and it works when I follow it, but now I substitute my homemade shakes. Which reminds me, I need to get back to that! I am way out of control!

I use water instead of milk to make drink. In my capp coffee I have 2 scoops of fiber cereal added. they blend into coffee.
For a snack I blend in scoop of ice cream ( sugar free ) and fruit and 5 walnuts r almons
I normally blend in a veg and banana to make protein drink.
Peanut butter, beans, eggs... are protein
Cal's in Cal's out.
8 oz of protein drink na I pass on certain food that day r not eat as much. yes it can have a lot of cal.'s but the body Has to have it and it craves it and will cause us to eat everything which we do. the body seek for what ? Protein.
as mention I use water not milk.
I also like to blend in yoget.
enjoy
I made one yesterday that was so amazing I darn near wept! About 1 1/4c almond milk, 1/2 frozen banana, 2T PB2 (peanut butter powder) and 1 scoop chocolate whey protein (I'm avoiding soy) and a few ice cubes. It was a BIG glass of chocolate peanutbutter wonderfulness for 250 calories and 25g protein!
Personally, I'm not crazy about the pre-made shakes. I like having more control over switching up my flavors. Plus, there's the cost factor! I have 2 big containers of protein powder - one plain non flavored, one chocolate.
I use berries in mine a lot but also use peaches and whatever I'm finding in the stores or fresh in season. Frozen fruit is best for me since it makes it shake-like.
I consider the shakes as part of an overall dietary change. Sometimes I'm just not really hungry but know I need some healthy fuel in my body. Other times, I just need something FAST.
Hope you find something that works for you!
The coffee stuff sounds good as well Admiral. Seems like a good way to get my caffeine and shake done at the same time. I saw some Adkins coffee shakes over the wknd and almost picked some up. Glad to see your back. I'm basically starting over AGAIN with the weight loss. :( Any success I had made is gone. One day at a time. :)
