Myofascial Pain Syndrome Support Group
Myofascial Pain Syndrome (or MPS) is a term used to describe one of the conditions characterized by chronic pain. It is associated with and caused by "trigger points" (TrPs), sensitive and painful areas between the muscle and fascia. The symptoms can range from referred pain through myofascial trigger points to specific pains in other areas of the body. It may be related...
For a couple of months the PT was using a rolling pin on my legs. Yeah kinda wierd I know, I felt like a piece of cookie dough, but it hurt like hell, but felt wonderful at the same time. The problem I had with that is that it severly activated the trigger points in my legs after the session and I could barley walk. It might work for. I really havn't got a good alternative for you. When the doctor was prescribing pain meds, I did a 2 mile walk and I felt so proud. Now that they have stoped giving me meds it makes it difficult even to walk. So like I said don't take no for an answer. I looked at the patients bill of rights, and a doctor can not tell you no concerning pain meds. If they don't feel comfortable about giving meds they must refer you to someone who will. Well these rights only apply to civilian life, so find something to ease your pain enough to be able to get your exercises in. Sorry so long, kinda winded out on coffee.

Cdn girl, I will probably be hitting you up for some ideas.
Ian, just about the same thing happened to me last night. I have been self-treating with a pretty hard ball and wall on the glutes and I had been having some flaring afterwards. Well, yesterday, I pushed a little harder, and let's just say I couldn't fall asleep until 9:00am and had the saddest combination of burning, pain, nausea, and depression and anxiety from it all. I've found that my self-treating is actually activating trigger points on my thighs and stomach and making my whole body burn! So I am either not doing it right, or my body is having an uncooperative reaction. I've decided to give the TP self-treatment a break until I recover (hopefully), and try more conservative modalities. I know what you mean about that feeling when you can go for a long walk. I cannot believe I actually jogged 5 min the other day. I thought I was dreaming and literally had to pinch myself. Today it hurts just to exist! Gosh, I really am hoping for the best for us for someday.
Thanks everyone for your support! Everyone has been so kind-hearted. It makes me wonder why such warm, giving people have to deal with things like this; I spend so much of my time wondering this. It makes me really upset. I guess the cliche that life isn't fair is true, but it's a cold, cold truth that I have a hard time accepting. Best wishes to us all. And thank you to those of you who are here to support even after feeling better. It gives me hope to hear your stories and what has worked for you. And with that, I have some more posts to catch up on.
